LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: What independence?
It's about time Puerto Rico be made a state so all its residents pay federal income taxes. They have been getting our tax dollars for almost 70 years. Published April 22, 2021
EDITORIAL: The Biden ‘green’ blueprint could leave America wanting
Earth Day arrives annually on April 22, the height of the Northern Hemisphere's spring season when nature rejuvenates and the environment looks its best. Published April 21, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Chauvin received deserved sentence
Derek Chauvin may end up officially being sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing George Floyd, but unofficially he's going to be handed a death sentence. Published April 21, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Ignore elites
Positions should be based on merit. Man, woman, Black, white, brown — who cares? Unfortunately, the elite class does. That's how they keep their power. Distinctions are made by division. They are conjuring up elements out of our prehistoric past and giving biased power. Call this phenomena neanderthal moronism. Published April 21, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Kick Waters to the curb
Last weekend, Rep. Maxine Waters advocated mayhem and rioting with the intent of intimidating the Derek Chauvin jury ("Auntie Maxine rides again," Web, April 20). She violated a Brooklyn Center, Missouri, curfew mandate while ensconced in that juiced-up Saturday night crowd. Published April 21, 2021
EDITORIAL: Before court delivered Chauvin guilty verdict, Democrats poured fuel on fire
As the nation braces for another round of summer riots, fueled by the radical left's slogan of "no justice, no peace," lamenting our country's "systemic institutional racism," it's important to remember which political party has sought to bring down the collective temperature through bipartisan compromise. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Lockdown policies have hurt kids
Anthony Fauci has long since transitioned from the practice of science to the practice of preserving his reputation, power and no doubt his wealth. This is unfortunately the rule just about everywhere you look in the so-called scientific community. When you reach Dr, Fauci's stature, ethics is easily thrown into the garbage. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Corporate America, stay out of politics
In recent years corporate entities have increasingly politicized their core purposes in this country. The result is a "woke" culture centered on political justice from a progressive standpoint. This is a huge mistake and miscalculation on the part of these companies, which should stick instead to their knitting or core businesses. If these companies fail in this regard, they will drive their internal steering mechanisms in directions they should never go -- and cause misalignments with the external environments which consist of their main product and service markets. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Her race got Babbitt no justice
On Jan. 6, 2021, a Black U.S. Capitol Police officer shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, a female demonstrator. Babbitt was unarmed. She was not disobeying a direct order from the officer, nor was she resisting arrest. She was not a wanted felon. She was, however, White. Published April 20, 2021
EDITORIAL: Americans must reject the lure of race-based strife
If there was ever a moment -- this is it -- to remain mindful that beneath the rainbow of skin colors, we all bleed red. Published April 19, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Fool me once …
Joe Biden and the Democrats' attacks on former President Trump for his perceived clumsy handling of the coronavirus onslaught was a main theme of all the Democratic presidential candidates. Mr. Biden was slyly misleading the preoccupied American public that by electing him, they would also be getting a doctor in the White House during this huge health crisis. This "doctor" is of course President Biden's wife, professional student Jill Biden, who has long perpetuated the flagrant deception that she is "Dr. Jill" — not disclosing that the title is based on a scholastic designation only, not a medical one. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Living in the left’s world
I feel like I'm living in an upside down world where what's true is false and what's false is true ("CEOs gather to speak out against voting law changes," Web, April 11). No state is suppressing anyone's right to vote. Strengthening voter laws helps ensure that all legal votes count. And can anyone explain why minorities are suddenly incapable of obtaining an IDs? Better yet, please show me a citizen who has no form of identification. Published April 19, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Where is common sense?
We have problems that should have been fixed with a common-sense approach, but the Democratic president and House and Senate majority are opposed to anything that will end the wrongheaded determination that all police officers are racist. The fact is that police officers are a diverse, multiracial group of people who respond to calls for help or assistance, including traffic violations, domestic and mental issues and criminal actions — and they are not aware beforehand of a suspect's race. Published April 19, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: And you thought Trump was a dictator
To those who considered the actions of President Trump dictatorial and not to be permitted during his four-year term in office, certainly the executive orders and appointments of President Biden in the past three months have exceeded Mr. Trump's unilateral actions. Published April 18, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Abortion not a heroic act
Not all health care employees are heroes. A hero is a person admired for courage or noble qualities. Health care employees who perform abortions are not heroes. Published April 18, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Demand justice for minority children, too
Black and brown children deserve to live to see another day, just like their young White counterparts, who receive correction, grace and mercy when they do wrong. Published April 18, 2021
EDITORIAL: Bordering on resistance: States should just say ‘no’ to Biden immigration assistance
With the U.S. presidency flipping from Republican control to the Democratic Party has come the subsequent reformulating of defiance. Published April 18, 2021
EDITORIAL: North Las Vegas mayor divorces Democrats
After then-actor Ronald Reagan was fired by GE as host of CBS' "General Electric Theater" in 1962 at the behest of the Kennedy administration, the president-to-be famously switched parties, becoming a Republican. Published April 15, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Teach youth respect for police
It is sad that we as a nation find ourselves back at this same place again: A person resisting arrest, refusing to cooperate — and being killed during the confrontation ("Police killing of Daunte Wright threatens to spark summer of violence," Web, April 12). Police careers are destroyed. Why do our youth think it is appropriate to resist police who are performing their duties to investigate and enforce the laws regarding criminal behavior, especially when the outcome can be death? Published April 15, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Afghanistan loss ends long, bloody war
Apparently President Biden does not mind if he loses Afghanistan ("Blinken in Afghanistan to sell Biden troop withdrawal," Web, April 15). I don't know if the decision was focus-grouped, but Mr. Biden may actually accrue credits from across the political spectrum for the end to this abysmal war, notwithstanding all the American and allied blood shed over the many years of fighting, and all the Afghan blood that will be spilled when score settling comes to Kabul.
