LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Azerbaijan paved democratic path
On May 28 Azerbaijani Americans will celebrate the 103rd anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), the world's first predominantly Muslim secular democracy. Within two years of its existence prior to the Soviet Bolshevik occupation in April 1920, ADR established functional democratic institutions, including the parliament, and elected a multi-party representative government. Other key achievements of Azerbaijani democracy were the 1919 universal suffrage law, which preceded its U.S. equivalent in granting women the right to vote, and the development of a uniform civic identity independent of ethnic, racial or religious differences. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Mandate vaccinations
Social Darwinism is the solution to the COVID-19 problem. The government needs to quit mollycoddling the American people and instead use tough love. Published May 19, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Share vaccines with hard-hit Taiwan
The unprecedented wave of COVID-19 now engulfing the world -- and extreme and widening global vaccine-access inequities -- mean we are in great need of high-level death- and suffering mitigation. Published May 19, 2021
EDITORIAL: Pennsylvania rejects lockdown culture by stripping Tom Wolf of emergency powers
If the latest news from Pennsylvania is any indication, the limited government movement is alive and well. Published May 19, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Show local restaurants some love
In these difficult economic times, it is important to patronize your favorite restaurants and honor the employees who make them a success. Now that more of us have received our COVID-19 vaccine, let's all celebrate National Waiter and Waitress Day on May 21. Published May 19, 2021
EDITORIAL: Politicizing school reopenings
Last summer, public school teachers in Washington, D.C. lined up "body bags" outside the school system's offices to protest a partial return to the classrooms. Published May 18, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stop open borders now
We are in trouble. Authorities estimate more than 1,000 illegal immigrants a day are crossing our southern border as a result of Biden's open-border policies. They illegally cross untouched, get away and disappear into the country. They are here now, and nobody cares or is interested in stopping the problem. Published May 18, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stand with Israel
The rockets fired by Hamas from Gaza were the first of an orchestrated attack on Israel sponsored by Iran. The latest rocket attacks on Israel by Hezbollah in Lebanon appear to be part of the plan. Published May 18, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Journalistic objectivity is gone
Journalism used to be considered as a profession that sought out news and delivered it to the public. We used to read the newspapers and listen to the radio to find out the truth about what was happening in our country and the rest of the world. Then came television and we were able to be on the spot with media as news developed. As a result, more and more people have been getting their daily news from their TVs. Published May 18, 2021
EDITORIAL: Maricopa County ballot audit highlights necessity of addressing voter concerns
To paraphrase Shakespeare, something is rotten in the state of Arizona. Published May 17, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left has done nothing for Black people
Every ethnic subcategory was denigrated, vilified and ostracized at one point in America's history. Italians, the Irish and Jews were all treated as the lowest form of humanity. Published May 17, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Israel can’t afford to disarm
The implication that Israel was established from undisputed Arab land by rapacious Westerners — an inference metastasizing within the "woke" world and especially loudly within specific Democratic Party precincts — is historically incorrect. Israel was established 73 years ago following a partition plan for the British Mandate of Palestine formulated by the United Nations. A Palestinian state was contemplated at the same time, but Arab Palestinians decided instead to throttle the nation established by indigenous Jewish Palestinians by invading the nascent state of Israel along with Arab allies. They lost the 1948 war and have been losing ever since, but not for want of trying. Published May 17, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Needed: Real election investigation
As recently as last weekend some of the alphabet media were reporting that there is no evidence of the fraud and illegal actions former President Trump said took place in the last election. But there have also been recent reports about significant election problems in New Hampshire, which did affect results in some 2020 races. And then there is the Nevada election audit, in which it has been reported that Nevada's election laws were not followed. Published May 17, 2021
EDITORIAL: The Supreme Court should remove infringements on concealed carry
The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution consists of only 27 words, yet arguments over their meaning fill volumes that cause bookshelves to groan under their load of legal argle-bargle. Published May 16, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Biden unfit for office
I have heard our president and top immigration official state that our southern border "is closed." At the same time, I watch videos of illegals streaming unchecked into our country. Our president is ignoring laws that are in existence now, and may have been supported by him years ago. Does that make him inept, incompetent or just plain stupid? I don't know, but none is acceptable from a president. When a bathtub overflows, you first shut off the water. Letting unchecked illegals walk into our country is plain stupidity. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: CRT does Black students a disservice
I always ask, "How does this happen?" whenever we learn that school boards have decided to include controversial curricula without parental input or consent ("Critical race propaganda," Web, May 6). Even more shocking is the fact that my tax dollars are being offered as an incentive to school districts. This type of so-called education demonstrates negligence at the highest levels. I can't understand how what is considered the best education system in the world continues to be shifted in a direction that has nothing with developing our students to compete in a global economy. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Free-lunch scheme will boost ‘big food’
You know that something is very rotten, food-wise, when not only the American Heart Association (the most corrupt medical institution ever), plus the nutrition departments of Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition starts claiming to have good nutrition as their driver. All of these entities are basically owned by the large food companies. Published May 16, 2021
EDITORIAL: John Kerry ignores China’s slavery, genocide, religious suppression to focus on climate
On Wednesday, President Biden's Special Climate Envoy and President Obama's former secretary of State and Democratic nominee for president testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Published May 13, 2021
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: May saner Democrats prevail
I can't believe how much the Democrats dislike America and its citizens. They are irresponsible bordering on criminal with their destruction of the economy and our national security. They are facilitating open borders by encouraging hundreds of thousands of illegals to cross into our country. They are aiding both human and drug trafficking and expediting a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are closing our gas pipelines, making us dependent on foreign countries.
