Democrats have gall to raid Trump?

I never thought the Democrats would have the audacity to use the FBI as a weapon to raid the home of former President Donald Trump ("Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis decries 'weaponization' of federal agencies after Mar-a-Lago raid," Web, Aug. 9). Then again, they did use false information to attain FISA warrants. Published August 9, 2022

Israel has every right to defend itself

The first responsibility of any government is to protect its people ("Misfired rockets may have killed over a dozen in Gaza battle," Web, Aug. 8). Israel has excellent intelligence regarding the activities of terrorists (not "militants") in the Gaza Strip. Even Hamas refers to Palestinian Islamic Jihad as terrorists. Published August 9, 2022

GOP must defund Biden agenda

The outrageous "Inflation Reduction Act" is probably the worst piece of legislation in modern history ("Democrats' tax and climate spending bill clears Senate along party lines, heads to House," Web, Aug. 7). The U.S. is on a dangerous course thanks to President Biden and the Democrats. Under these circumstances, Republicans should easily take back the Senate in November. However, the polls indicate the race might be a real cliffhanger. Why is that? Published August 8, 2022

The lunacy of the left-wing

It's encouraging that more and more people are realizing that the political left has morphed into judgmental, bigoted, name-calling bullies who believe in censorship and cancel culture. According to a 2021 Rasmussen poll, 58% of voters now deem the major media, which are overwhelmingly left-wing, to be the "enemy of the people." Published August 8, 2022

Business already shoulders the burden

American business entities pay 93% of all income tax dollars collected at the various levels of government in the United States. The claim that corporations do not pay their fair share is another Democrat-perpetrated lie. Published August 8, 2022

Calling all truly good Catholics

President Biden continues to aggressively promote abortion and look for ways to use taxpayer money to fund it. All the while, he claims to be a "good" Catholic. Well, his actions are those of a condemned Catholic. Published August 5, 2022

Of course crime is up

Crime rates are up. Recently a shoplifter in New York City was arrested for the 129th time. He had been released and never brought to trial as a result of the New York state no-bail law. Published August 5, 2022

Who’s the real dictator?

Bravo to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for upholding Florida state law and suspending left-wing, radical prosecutor Andrew Warren ("Florida Gov. DeSantis suspends 'woke' Tampa prosecutor," Web, Aug. 4). Mr. Warren mistakenly believed he could pick and choose the laws he wished to enforce. Yet because Mr. DeSantis doesn't believe in allowing criminals back on the street to re-offend, it's he who is being unfairly slammed as a dictator. In the meantime, "woke" Hillsborough State Attorney Warren may as well be the poster child for the consequences of elected officials who do not do their jobs. Goodbye and good riddance. Taiwan trip explosive for U.S.

In a more perfect world, it would have been ethical for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to visit Taiwan ("Beijing increases tensions over Pelosi's Taipei visit with military drills surrounding Taiwan," Web Aug. 3). But courage can be exhibited by both well-intentioned and ill-intentioned people. Published August 4, 2022

GOP must get its message out

The liberal media ignores or distorts the facts voters need to make critical decisions. Republicans and conservatives need to expand their media sources to provide voters with those facts. Published August 4, 2022

Russia, not China, a clear threat

I condemn Sen. Josh Hawley for his opposition to NATO membership for both Finland and Denmark ("Senate approves NATO expansion to Finland, Sweden in rebuke to Putin," Web, Aug. 3). Published August 4, 2022

Letter to the editor: From left many promises, few deliveries

It's hard to believe these are the same public officials who voted for the second round of COVID-19 relief money, which contributed to the current level of inflation ("Economists question claim by Democrats that new tax-and spend-bill will cut inflation," Web, Aug. 1). Now they want to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which will raise taxes? Published August 3, 2022

Was al-Zawahri takedown smart?

I believe in the idea of punishment, especially of mass murderers like al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri, but I wonder about the risk/reward calculus of this specific death ("Al Qaeda leader's death renews debate over hasty U.S. Afghanistan withdrawal," Web, Aug. 2). Published August 3, 2022

Western droughts a growing problem

The drought in the western U.S. has been accelerating for 20 years, and the water supplied by the Colorado River to two major reservoirs has decreased to near record low levels. Lake Mead is at 28% capacity and Lake Powell at 27%. Published August 3, 2022

Speaker Trump would turn U.S. around

If, as hoped, Republicans become the House majority in November, they should begin wresting the country from the left's grasp by selecting former President Donald Trump as speaker. It would be an unusual move, but the Constitution is silent on whether the speaker must be chosen from among elected House members, and no federal law requires it. Published August 2, 2022

Antitrust bill would harm U.S.

Your article on the Big Tech antitrust legislation pending before Congress fails to note the potential harm these bills would do to U.S. national security, particularly with respect to China ("Big Tech antitrust bill slowly gains steam in Congress, still likely short of needed votes," Web, July 29). Published August 2, 2022

Political left pushes for eugenics

"'Respect for Marriage Act' is the latest example of the left's outright lying" (Web, July 31) overlooks the evolutionary process that all organisms followed, from asexual to sexual reproduction, to survive in the long run. Published August 2, 2022

Make Biden’s party a thing of the past

The hate-America political party is alive and well. For the past two years we've experienced its doings: the novel coronavirus, inflation, recreational drugs, abortion, defunding the police and a national debt of almost $100,000 per American, which with a growing interest rate could wipe us out. The list goes on. Published August 1, 2022

Vaping far less deadly than cigarettes

Jasjit Ahluwalia's op-ed argues for nicotine vaping as harm reduction compared to cigarettes, but it fails to explain why vaping "is not the devil, cigarettes are" ("Nicotine is not the devil, cigarettes are," Web, July 28). Published August 1, 2022

Suddenly the border wall makes sense?

The Biden administration's Department of Homeland Security is now rationalizing its conclusion that it is, in fact, a good idea to complete at least some parts of the southern border wall ("DHS defends new border wall construction, says it will save migrants' lives," Web, July 28).
