The Declaration’s foundation: The Bible
Why all the dislike of the U.S. Declaration of Independence ("Preserve and protect U.S. Constitution from all enemies," Web, July 23)? Published July 29, 2022
From bad to worse under Biden
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." The Democrats have taken the Bard's words to new heights -- or more accurately, new lows. The Afghan withdrawal was a success. The border is secure (even as we witness a massive influx of illegals and goodness knows who else). No longer are there just women and men; simply pick anything in between at any particular moment. Crime is rampant, but the guise of reform is justification for letting violent offenders free to repeat over and over without fear of consequences. Published July 29, 2022
Cut off polluter China
The best way to reduce air pollution is to fight it at its source. Well, China is the biggest producer of air pollution in the world. So we (the rest of the world) should end all trade with China until it cleans up its spewing of pollution. Published July 29, 2022
Letter to the editor: Why announce prisoner swap?
The United States has sent a troubling message to our people and to others who live in democracies: We will negotiate and pay some type of ransom to hostage takers ("Kremlin poker-faced on US swap offer to free Griner, Whelan," Web, July 28). Published July 29, 2022
Give Social Security a future
When the historically high consumer price index adjustment to Social Security payments is announced in October, the hand-wringing over the future of Social Security will once again be front and center. Published July 28, 2022
Destined to remember forgotten past
"There is nothing new under the sun" is a sentence found in Ecclesiastes 1:9 in the King James Bible. It is at least 30,000 years old, dating from the time of Solomon. Near the turn of the previous century, George Santayana wrote, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Published July 28, 2022
Don’t let elites divide populace
There are two main ways to control a population: buy off players to instill fear or blackmail the compromised. It's nothing new. Tojo, Hitler and Mussolini were masters at it. Ironically, Franklin D. Roosevelt's greatest task in World War II was outmaneuvering domestic enemies. Published July 28, 2022
Less discipline harms good students
As Devon Westhill notes, the Biden administration shouldn't pressure schools to "reduce" discipline just to shrink "racial gaps" in suspension rates ("Going soft on Black children's misbehavior is the wrong policy prescription," Web, July 18). Published July 27, 2022
Dan Cox is no ‘extremist’
In "Author Wes Moore wins Democratic primary for Maryland governor" (Web, July 22), Associated Press writer Brian Witte tries to discredit Maryland's Republican gubernatorial candidate, Dan Cox, by labeling him "an acolyte of Mr. Trump and supporter of right wing causes." Published July 27, 2022
Jan. 6 show is left’s last-gasp effort
The Jan. 6 committee is a taste of the theater of the absurd ("Why the Jan. 6 committee is doomed to fail," Web, July 20). There is no cross-examination, lest the truth be revealed. It is under the direction of a network executive. Thank goodness there are cable channels not covering this hit job on former President Donald Trump. Published July 27, 2022
What junk science has wrought
When you get your medical advice from Bill Gates, Big Bird and Anthony Fauci, be prepared to suffer the consequences. Unfortunately, about a third of the U.S. population swallowed every bit of propaganda coming out of the FDA/CDC/NIH crime syndicate and is suffering the consequences. Another third knew something was amiss, but they were coerced into going along. A final third actually sought out dissenting scientists' views, managed to escape and stayed healthy. Whose side is Biden on?
Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska's pleas for more congressional support still have to get past President Biden. That's the same Mr. Biden who denied Ukraine the Polish fighter jets it needed to conduct strafing runs against Russian columns and positions. Published July 26, 2022
We need better presidents
If ever there were an award for willful blindness and cowardice in the face of great danger, it should go to President Biden for his efforts on the Iran nuclear deal. He is sitting on his hands while Iran moves forward in becoming a dangerous nuclear power. In fact, Mr. Biden has exhibited willful blindness for months while Iran moves closer to its completion of nuclear weapons. He has also ignored Iran's status as the world's biggest sponsor of terrorism. Published July 25, 2022
Don’t cede freedoms to climate radicals
Watching our world elites creating hysteria and fear as an excuse to restrict our freedoms is infuriating. Photographic evidence from all over the world proves that sea levels are not rising as claimed. It's also been clearly shown that where it appears levels are rising, it's due to the land subsiding as coastal aquifers are drained. Published July 25, 2022
Let’s get honest about monkeypox
I find it amusing that the "woke" medical community and the gay community are both dancing around the subject of how the majority of monkeypox is transmitted ("LGBT activists demand resources for monkeypox, don't want officials to stigmatize gay communities," Web, July 22). It is transmitted mainly through anal sex. That is why over 95% of the cases of monkeypox are among gay men. Published July 25, 2022
Biden, puppet on wheels
There are some things you see in life that you can't unsee. I recently viewed news footage of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar pretending to be arrested outside the Supreme Court building, where a crowd had gathered to protest the court's recent abortion decision ("AOC, Omar fake being handcuffed in protest outside Supreme Court," Web, July 19). Published July 22, 2022
Man-made climate change hardly fact
It is ironic that, on the 53rd anniversary of the first moon landing, President Biden would tell the nation that man-made climate change "is literally -- not figuratively -- a clear and present danger" ("Biden unveils executive action on climate change but stops far short of declaring national emergency," Web, July 20). Included in the long list of well-qualified people skeptical of what Mr. Biden calls an "emergency" are Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin and at least five other Apollo astronauts. Published July 22, 2022
Public harassment of officials is left’s way
Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh is being harassed with the aim of getting him to resign from the Supreme Court so that President Biden can appoint another radical ("Protesters' run-in with Kavanaugh at Morton's steakhouse gets big thumbs up from White House," Web, July 9). These so-called protesters have upped the ante by hounding Justice Kavanaugh when he was out to dinner. Justice Kavanaugh had to leave via an alternate exit. Published July 22, 2022
China doesn’t get to OK travel plans
China may strive to be the world's newest superpower, but it is hard to take seriously when it reacts with such hysteria over the travel plans of the U.S. House speaker ("China threatens strong response if Pelosi visits Taiwan," Web, July 19). The time is well past due to explain to the Chinese Communist Party that Taiwan's fate must be decided by the people of Taiwan alone. Published July 21, 2022
Stop partisanship and fix the border now
No, Mr. Mayorkas, the southern border is most certainly not secure, as you insisted it was earlier this week. In fact, it has been broken for decades. Published July 21, 2022
