LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Needed: bargaining chip against China

Before any nation might effectively challenge China, a mighty military country with almost 1.5 billion consumers, on any issue that nation first must have a significant trade export/import bargaining chip. Published March 18, 2021

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: U.S., U.K. among least racist nations

Could we be honest for just a second? Is anyone else sick and tired of "racism" and '"white supremacy" being hurled at the heads of anyone who dares have a thought, word or deed that is deemed out of line ("U.K. palace ends silence on Harry, Meghan racism allegations," Web, March 9)? Could we have these terms defined, please? Published March 17, 2021

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: What failed leftist policies?

Good times roll if Democrats control the presidency and the budgetary process, and can manipulate government when increasing interest rates converge with trillions of dollars of increased national debt. Published March 17, 2021

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Look to gun laws for voting rules

Voting is an unalienable right, just like the right to keep and bear arms for self-defense of an individual's unalienable right to life. Voters should be approved through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System before legally voting each time, just as they are made to be checked each time before purchasing a firearm. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Didn’t we already win our freedom?

Your editorial regarding the role of officer corps' efforts to reduce pointless wars was excellent ("Carpet-bombing a TV host: Pentagon goes to war against Tucker Carlson," Web, March 14). Unfortunately, tying that thought to Tucker Carlson reduced the quality and impact of the piece, in my opinion. I would also suggest that statement "the United States has not won a shooting war in more than 75 years" is incorrect. I believe any responsible military authority would concede that the U.S. won the First Gulf War (although it was not declared such by an act of Congress). Published March 16, 2021

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Should veterinarians give humans shots?

According to a recent fact sheet released by the White House, one of President Biden's initiatives to declare national independence from COVID-19 by July 4 is to "expand the pool of qualified professionals" injecting Americans with the vaccine to include veterinarians ("'America is coming back': Biden targets July 4 for virus 'independence,'" Web, March 11). LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Some debt forgiveness better than cash

With the new COVID-19-relief stimulus deal adding $1.9 trillion to our ever-ballooning federal debt, I would like to suggest a proposal that would offer at least a modicum of accountability (which would actually provide financial relief for struggling Americans). How about for anyone or any business that owes the federal government money from back taxes or student loans, a one-time, 50% lump-sum discount payment to settle the debt? For example, if a married couple owed $18,000 in back taxes, if they could find their way to accumulating $9,000 in cash, that would settle their debt. Published March 15, 2021

EDITORIAL: The Pentagon goes to war against Tucker Carlson

Last week, Tucker Carlson noted on his eponymous show that the U.S. military seemed to be excessively concerned with retention of the women in military, right down to the creation of a maternity flight suit. Published March 14, 2021

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Biden’s speech whitewashed

During President Biden's first national address to the American people last Thursday night, I noticed several interesting things. First, Mr. Biden did not recognize where the coronavirus came from: China. He did not acknowledge the Chinese goverement and World Health Organization's cover-up, which led to the spread of COVID-19 around the globe. He did not hold China responsible for the devastation of 2.6 million deaths worldwide, and the 530,351 deaths in the United States. Published March 14, 2021

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Supreme Court a grave disappointment

The failure of the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on the most momentous problem America has faced in memory is unbelievable, and all the justices should be removed for this failure ("Supreme Court rejects Trump's final election challenge," Web, March 8). The members of the Supreme Court are American citizens first and foremost. The situation facing them was simply that a number of crucial states did not follow the U.S. Constitution. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Iran far worse than Saudi Arabia

Recently, President Biden removed the Iranian-supported Houthi militia from the list of foreign terrorist organizations ("Biden moves ahead with delisting Iran-backed Houthis as terrorists," Web, Feb. 12). This was done to permit humanitarian relief to reach the civilian population in areas of Yemen that are under Houthi control. Unfortunately, what followed has been an increase of Houthi fighters shooting Iranian missiles into Saudi Arabia. For the 10 days following the change in designation, missiles were fired into Saudi Arabia. Published March 14, 2021

EDITORIAL: Joe Biden ‘Neanderthal’ notions

To free the face or not? That is the question summing up whether the United States has progressed far enough toward coronavirus recovery to return to its freewheeling ways or to stay bottled up in virus containment mode. Published March 11, 2021
