We’re our own armed security
Senators and House representatives, why don't you reject your own armed security guards before you try to ban my armed security guard -- me -- from exercising my unalienable right to keep and bear arms ("Left weaponizes and politicizes Uvalde tragedy to punish law-abiding gun owners," Web, June 9)? Why not prohibit spare tires for automobiles to stop flats? Published June 10, 2022
The pro-death party
For 50 years, the abortion industry led by Planned Parenthood has promoted a philosophy that if a baby in the womb is unwanted, you can just kill it. That same philosophy has now become dominant throughout our society, with so many murders and attempted murders taking place ("FBI raids California home of man charged in Kavanaugh murder plot," Web, June 9). Published June 10, 2022
Harsher penalties for gun crimes
Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey was born and grew up in Uvalde, Texas ("Matthew McConaughey urges gun reform at White House press briefing," Web, June 7). He spoke at a recent White House press conference on the Uvalde school massacre, calling for new gun legislation. He said, "We start by making the loss of these lives matter." Published June 9, 2022
‘Red flag’ laws a bad idea
"Red flag" laws seem so justified and necessary -- especially right after some nutcase shoots up a school. But can we please pause for a breath ("Lawmakers eye bipartisan national 'red flag' law in wake of Texas school shooting," Web, May 25)? Published June 9, 2022
Cheap energy helps us care for planet
A perverse benefit of today's high gas prices: They are a bitter forewarning of what will soon become normal as President Biden continues to bring in more severe climate-change and renewable-energy policies ("Gas prices double since Biden's presidency began," Web, June 5). After all, Mr. Biden has made clear that pleasing the extreme left in the Democratic Party and their activist allies in the climate-change movement is a higher priority than taking action to boost fossil-fuel production to keep prices low. Deal harshly with judicial intimidation
I agree with Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh on very little, but we have one thing in common: our belief that a judicial authority should be free from intimidation, particularly where he or she resides ("Armed man arrested outside Justice Kavanaugh's home planned to kill him: Report" Web, June 8). Published June 8, 2022
Second Amendment critical for liberty
The sole purpose of the Second Amendment is to prevent federal and state tyranny. We do not have guns for hunting purposes; we have them for military purposes, ultimately to prevent our own legislators from ruling over us instead of serving us. Published June 8, 2022
Sacrificing low-income students
As a participant of the school lunch program when I was in high school, I found it heartbreaking to read the new policy of the Department of Agriculture regarding meal funding and Title IX ("Gov. Noem: S.D. will sue if USDA withholds lunch money over transgender sports debate," Web, June 3). This type of aggressive tactic that forces teachers to disregard their religious views about human biology reminds me of the actions of the Nixon administration staffers who caused Watergate. The only difference is that this is socially motivated. Published June 8, 2022
Solar makes no sense
Solar panel production requires tremendous amounts of energy as well as the use of raw materials mostly available only from China ("Biden will trigger DPA, waive tariffs for two years on solar panels to boost production," Web, June 6). This lack of domestic raw-material availability is driven by the political left's efforts to stop just about any and all mining here in the U.S. Published June 7, 2022
Petroleum isn’t just gas
Clean energy's flaw in the plan is that wind and solar deliver their goals, but nothing else. Achieving perfection is the objective of the zealot. The big 'green' falsehood is that a barrel of petroleum provides a barrel of gasoline. Hidden is the fact that only 20% of that barrel is made into gasoline. The other 80% makes byproducts, many of which are plastics and polyesters that compose nearly all the disposables used in our hospitals to maintain high states of sterility. Published June 7, 2022
Begging for oil when it’s right here
Instead of a magic carpet ride to Saudi Arabia only to grovel and make a deal with the devil, President Biden should increase U.S. oil production so we can work back toward becoming oil-independent ("America needs its Gulf allies," Web, June 6). We should not be begging our enemies for oil. Published June 7, 2022
Are we safe from Russian attack?
Russia has warned President Biden that if Ukraine receives advanced U.S. military weapons and uses those weapons to attack Russian territory, it will attack the U.S. Published June 6, 2022
How far will the left go?
Would American voters stand up and say "Enough is enough" if the Democrats took the law into their own hands and had the FBI round up, handcuff and place in leg irons former Trump White House staff -- for purely political reasons? This is exactly what happened last Friday to Peter Navarro, a former Trump White House adviser, when he was getting ready to board a plane for a flight to Nashville. Published June 6, 2022
Democratic ‘leaders’ should be charged
Slowly the facts known in 2016 are being exposed to the public. Members of the executive branch knew the false "Steele dossier" used against then-candidate Donald Trump was paid for by the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton campaign. The critical damage of the conspiracy was the expense to the taxpayers of the meritless Mueller investigation, two partisan impeachments of former President Trump and the harsh treatment of Mr. Trump's family, staff and supporters by the Mueller and executive branch investigators. Left’s heroes frequently villains
Does anyone remember Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for Stormy Daniels? The lawyer who seems to have made false accusations about former President Donald Trump, the lawyer whom the liberal media called our savior and the "Holy Spirit"? He was the left's hero and many wanted him to run for office. They made him an example of the rightness of their values, attitudes and ways of life. Published June 3, 2022
Trial should empower male victims
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard put the Fairfax County, Virginia, courthouse on the map with their recent trial ("Jury awards Johnny Depp $15M in damages in libel suit against Amber Heard, gives her $2M," Web, June 1). Though the case received tremendous media attention and drew crowds, it was of greater significance than the hoopla surrounding it. Published June 3, 2022
High oil prices mean all costs more
"Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen admits she was wrong on inflation" (Web, June 1) is reminiscent of Ms. Yellen's October 2005 assertion that "the economy would likely be able to absorb the shock" caused by the deflation of the housing bubble. Published June 3, 2022
Hinckley should stay in prison
It saddens me that the would-be murderer of the late President Ronald Reagan will soon be fully freed from the justice system ("Reagan shooter Hinckley to be released June 15," Web, June 1). Published June 2, 2022
West must help Ukraine squeeze Russia
Unfortunately, Ukraine has fake friends in the West and around the world. Ukraine was attacked by Russia. Thousands of peaceful, innocent Ukrainians have been killed. Russia devastated civilian housing, infrastructure and living needs. Published June 2, 2022
Pray for U.S.
Is it too simplistic to suggest that the vast divide in our country can be largely explained by whom or what we worship: God or government? Put another way, in whom do we have faith? Published June 2, 2022
