Biden still in la-la land

Does anyone remember the old movie "Harvey," in which Jimmy Stewart plays Elwood P. Dowd, the only character in the film able to see the rabbit, Harvey? It was one year ago when President Biden claimed that inflation was temporary. Yet inflation now appears to be a permanent part of our economy with no end in sight. In fact, year-over-year inflation recently reached 9.1%, Published July 21, 2022

Legally armed citizens the solution

Do Americans now see the obvious answer to the problem of active shooters ("'Good Samaritan' who killed mall gunman was authorized under Indiana's constitutional carry law," Web, July 18)? From Indiana comes the direct solution to a bad guy with a gun: a good guy with a gun. America would be safer if we told the socialists to sit down and be quiet, while trained citizens handled this problem. Published July 20, 2022

Carbon dioxide not existential threat

When will common sense finally laugh "climate change" out of existence ("Democrats roll out wish list of climate change executive orders for Biden," Web, July 19)? Published July 20, 2022

Eating better, less helps stay on budget

The nation's food banks are being overwhelmed with long lines of people who don't normally need the assistance, proof of the Biden administration's failure to address inflation ("Long lines are back at US food banks as inflation hits high," Web, July 14). Sadly, this is starting to remind me of the food lines my grandparents talked about experiencing during the Depression era. It is becoming increasingly obvious that this administration lacks expertise in economic forecasting (though many experts predicted this would happen). Published July 20, 2022

Left faces gay-marriage road blocks

Most of the coverage of Sen. Ted Cruz's comment on overturning the Supreme Court's 2015 gay marriage ruling has missed a critical issue ("Ted Cruz says Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage 'clearly wrong,'" Web, July 17). State activists are moving to change the laws to permit gay marriage, and in most states they are likely to succeed. However, there are two major problems for the Democrats in this effort. States must take over immigration

The Biden administration has abdicated its responsibility for immigration and has placed the American people in grave danger ("'More dead bodies' than Afghanistan: Veterans say southern border is 'war zone,'" Web, July 17). Dangerous Mexican cartels now control our southern border and complete anarchy exists. The administration itself is violating federal laws. Published July 19, 2022

This is not progress

Our children are being delivered into a lifelong gauntlet of the liberal left's creation. Your infant may experience the harmful effects of a baby formula shortage brought on by the Democratic Party's ineptitude and lack of foresight. Ongoing family nutritional needs are suffering from inflation-driven food prices and competing household budget demands. Your family's quality of life is being diminished by pay falling behind inflation and labor market pollution brought on by a flood of low-wage illegal immigrants. Published July 19, 2022

So much for making Saudis pay

Many of us cheered when President Biden pledged that Saudi Arabia would be a pariah state under his leadership, that it would be called to account for the savage murder of kingdom opponent Jamal Khashoggi and the ruthless repression under which the royal family has ruled its people. Today, though, reality has set in as we make a sharp turn away from the original Biden plan ("Biden comes up empty-handed in Saudi Arabia, but marshals region against Iran," Web, July 17). Biden throws Britain under bus

President Biden's public comparison, in Saudi Arabia, of Israel's treatment of Palestinians to Britain's past in Ireland is a step too far. What about U.S. historical treatment of Mexicans, Cubans or Filipinos, and what about Mr. Biden's friendliness toward figures in the Irish Republican Army? Britain enjoyed excellent relations with the U.S. under Presidents Kennedy, Reagan and Clinton, all of whom had Irish ancestry, and it is self-indulgent and a dereliction for this president to make his personal background an issue. Uvalde officers’ unthinkable missteps

"Systemic failures" is a neat and tidy term to describe the inactions of the police on the scene at the Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas ("'Systemic failures' in Uvalde school massacre, report finds," Web, July 17). But no excuse in the world can rectify the passivity and negligence shown by the officers who stood outside the classroom, sanitizing their hands while listening to screams and gunshots as children were being slaughtered. All the sanitizer in the world couldn't get the blood off their hands. Published July 18, 2022

California’s illegal trucker move

California, in violation of the Constitution's Article 1 commerce clause, is now banning independent truckers from receiving equal access to interstate commerce in the state. Published July 15, 2022

Red wave coming in November

Our economy is in the toilet, tens of billions of our tax dollars are going toward a war in which we have no particular interest, our borders are overrun and our justice system is crumbling as crime rates skyrocket, and local governments choose to ignore laws they don't like. Democrats have no real candidates

Rumors of the invocation of the 25th Amendment, which provides the procedures for replacing the president in the event of death, removal, resignation or incapacitation, are continuing to emerge from Democratic power brokers. Whether that proceeding will come to pass is anyone's guess. At the same time, however, The Washington Post recently issued a ranking of the top 10 presidential candidates for 2024. The list was a stark reminder of how dreadfully weak the Democrats' bench is -- and brought to mind Disney's "Snow White." Published July 15, 2022

Politicians fossilize into cushy D.C. gigs

The problem is less the chronological age of Beltway politicians and more the length of time they have served in office ("Biden's bumbling puts spotlight on abundance of elderly politicians running Washington," Web, July 13). Published July 14, 2022

Why are politicians proud of abortions?

It strikes me as odd that many Black women who are running for political office are publicly "telling their stories" about the abortions they have had ("Democratic candidates go all in on abortion with testimonials about getting the procedure." Web, July 12). Published July 14, 2022

Make an example of veteran defrauder

U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha is a dolt for the plea deal he made with Sarah Cavanaugh, a Rhode Island woman who stole over $250,000 from the Providence VA and nonprofit groups but will only have to pay $82,000 in restitution. Cavanaugh faces more than 20 years in prison, but Cunha has agreed to recommend a very short jail term. What on Earth is he thinking? He is obviously not a military veteran and has no respect for veterans. Published July 14, 2022

Possible fixes for gun violence, abortion

I propose a commonsense solution that might help to prevent guns from falling into the hands of bad actors and mentally ill users: Require all gun owners to possess and use a gun safe. Published July 13, 2022

Stop sham trial, release prisoners

I can't believe what I am witnessing: the sham Capitol "riot" hearings with the same pathetic cast of lying Democratic and RINO conservatives that featured in the Mueller "Russia collusion" investigations. Every one of them is a liar. Published July 13, 2022

Led by those who would destroy us

President Biden's directive to send 5 million barrels of American oil overseas, as well as his single-handed and intentional destruction of our ability to harvest our rich energy abundance, is an imbecilic act of treachery and betrayal against the people of the United States. Mr. Biden deserves to be convicted of treason and to rot in prison for the rest of his depraved days. Published July 13, 2022

Trump should step aside

The only way for the Republicans to lose the 2022 and 2024 elections is to allow former President Donald Trump to head the ticket. Unfortunately, as a complete narcissist, Mr. Trump is unlikely to heed such sound advice, and it is going to be difficult to dissuade him from jumping forward. Published July 12, 2022
