Incorporation doctrine dubious at best

"School district argues football coach's postgame prayer pressured students" (Web, April 1) quotes a lawyer who says a public official may not do anything to "advance" religion. Under the Constitution, that dog doesn't hunt. Published April 5, 2022

Stop ‘woke’ business practices

The growing number of corporations incorporating "woke" ideology into their long-range business plans are being punished for it by stockholders who want them to stick instead to their core competencies and profit-making instincts. Published April 4, 2022

The irony of players’ anthem snubs

What disgraceful behavior by the South Carolina women's basketball team at the Final Four match-up against Louisville last week. The team refused to come out of the locker room to stand for the playing of the national anthem before the game. Published April 4, 2022

No morality without religion

The word "woke" means having an active awareness of systemic injustices and prejudices, especially related to civil and human rights. Well, I may not be woke, but I am awake to the following litany of truisms. Published April 4, 2022

Profit earners, not taxpayers

So President Biden is begging for $22 billion in "taxpayer dollars" to spend on COVID-19 ("Biden prods Congress for more money for COVID-19 testing, treatments, booster shots," Web, March 30). It is past time to change the term "taxpayer dollars" to "profit earners' dollars" to recognize the true role of Karl Marx's "wage earners" or proletariat social class. Published April 1, 2022

Petroleum release will drive up inflation

President Biden's decision to pump 1 million barrels a day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will do nothing to reduce oil prices and will likely lock in the current gasoline costs for years to come. There are real, hard reasons at work and the ignorant political left, Mr. Biden and the mainstream media are demonstrating just how clueless they are on energy's workings. Published April 1, 2022

Ruling a win for Christianity in Finland

A Helsinki court acquitted Dr. Paivi Rasanen and Bishop Juhana Pohjola of all charges in a hate-speech case, ruling that "it is not for the district court to interpret biblical concepts" ("Evangelical politician, bishop in Finland cleared of 'hate speech' charges over remarks on gays," Web, March 30). Published April 1, 2022

Left’s violence turns inward

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards shows the true colors of the "woke" Hollywood elite, which is the radical political left, only amplified. Published March 31, 2022

Inflation not a ‘cocktail set’ problem

As potential Democratic voters pour over our "closed" southern border, the political left claims that requiring IDs and signature verification equates to voter suppression. Add to this their denial that the joke of printing "play money" drives up inflation. Published March 31, 2022

Letter to the editor: Zelenskyy is Lech Walesa ‘on steroids’

The issue is not whether Russian President Vladimir Putin uses chemical, biological or battlefield nukes. The issue is what happens if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy or his wife and children are assassinated. Mr. Putin already dispatched one killer team that was neutralized. More are coming or are already in Ukraine, waiting. Published March 31, 2022

Jackson would ‘interpret’ to our detriment

Listening to the responses of Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, one realizes the effort these parries are making to replace the religious principles that have long been a cornerstone of our nation with social principles based on social trends. This sets a dangerous precedent at the highest level of government that will continue eroding our nation's foundations in both the public and private sectors. Published March 30, 2022

NFL move absurd, anti-American

How absurd would it be if the National Basketball Association were to suddenly mandate that in the interest of "diversity" (whatever that actually means) a requirement would be instituted whereby every team roster had to include a general-population proportionality of white and Asian players ("Head coaches laud NFL's diversity moves at league meetings," Web, March 29)? What if the NBA also forced teams to give these players a "fair share" of game-playing time? Any such requirements would, of course, be immediately dismissed, as they ought to be. Published March 30, 2022

Democracy starts at home

The greatest danger to our country is not China, Russia, Iran or North Korea. It's President Biden and whoever is pulling his strings. Published March 30, 2022

‘Abolish’ the Biden government

As the old saying goes, the writing is on the wall. Both Democrats and Republicans know that President Biden's gaffes and "walk backs" send out mixed messages to the world. In my opinion they are going to get people killed and our country attacked. Published March 29, 2022

Why the selective diversity rule?

The recent NFL diversity and inclusion rule, which requires each of the league's 32 teams to employ a woman or a member of an ethnic or racial minority as an offensive assistant, made me think about what the NFL is saying about this position. The NFL is in a sense admitting that these coaching positions do not require exceptional talent, skills or merit; rather, it is telling the world that other factors are at play. The worst kind of discrimination

Is it discrimination when an employer announces they'll only consider whites for a position that all races qualify for? Or that they'll only accept males for a job that all sexes, including transgender folk, can do? Since it's safe to assume most Americans would say yes to both, where is the "woke" mob in seeking a 100-0 vote against Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Supreme Court justice? Published March 29, 2022

Bench Biden now

In a little over a week, Major League Baseball will begin the 2022 season. Fans across the nation will be dreaming of their respective teams playing in the fall classic, the World Series. From its inception, baseball has deemed -- and the iconic song has verified -- that "it's one, two, three strikes you're out in the old ball game." Published March 28, 2022

No evidence of Biden’s backbone

President Biden finally uttered something I agree with when he said, "For God's sake, this man [Vladimir Putin] cannot remain in power" ("Biden not getting much allied back-up in call for Putin's ouster," Web, March 27). What's more, Biden said it with conviction, as he should have. We are looking at a madman of Adolf Hitler's stature. Published March 28, 2022

Putin’s invasion threatens all

My heart aches for the Ukrainian people as they suffer enormous pain just for wanting to remain an independent, democratic republic. These brave individuals are willing to die for their freedom, so we cannot hold back our support. It is the time for all free peoples everywhere to come to the aid of Ukraine. We must be all in during this fight for freedom in hope that a further bloodbath can be avoided. Published March 28, 2022

Bill would have made murder legal

Maryland Democrats just got caught with their diapers down. They had sought to pass Senate Bill 669 with a provision against newborn babies that, if applied to puppies or kittens, would be a crime. Published March 25, 2022
