Congress should quit drafting bills targeting Donald Trump
It would be a good thing for the country if the bright minds who found a way to resolve the COVID-19 crisis could now turn their attention to the other sickness that is poisoning the nation's civic life: Trump Derangement Syndrome. Published July 25, 2021
Milley should have resigned
"Trump launches broadside against Milley over 'coup' reports" (Web, July 15) seems to put Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, in a no-win situation. Milley's failure to disclaim or deny the main points of the article when directly asked during his press conference July 21 further damages his ability to be a non-political military officer. He should consider immediate retirement. Published July 22, 2021
Enforce public-health law
Anthony Fauci said recently on PBS that "we will try anything and everything" to get people vaccinated, such as enlisting trusted confidants of the unvaccinated to reason with these people. Published July 22, 2021
End gerrymandering now
Gerrymandering is named for Elbridge Gerry, one of the three who in 1787 refused to sign the Constitution's first draft ("Eric Holder and Democrats' gerrymandering," Web, July 21). As it happened, the Bill of Rights was hastily added, answering the three men's main objection. Not long after, Gerry, now governor of Massachusetts, redrew a congressional district. The press described its reptilian shape as Gerry's salamander. Published July 22, 2021
Hypocrisy, the destroyer of amity: Double standards of justice breed alarm in Americans
Essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." Published July 22, 2021
Kudos to Paul on Fauci grilling
Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that the novel coronavirus was leaked from the Wuhan lab, where they were experimenting to make it more contagious ("Fauci, Paul spar over whether Wuhan virus lab spent U.S. money on gain-of-function research," Web, July 20). In 2012 Anthony Fauci stated that viral experiments were worth the risk of a pandemic. And in January 2017, before former President Trump took office, Fauci said there was "no doubt" Trump would face a surprise infectious disease. How interesting that Fauci's crystal-ball prediction was realized. But the icing on the cake is that our tax dollars were funneled into the Wuhan lab via Fauci. If anyone is lying, it is Fauci, who is desperately trying to save his own skin. Published July 21, 2021
Good riddance to Ben & Jerry’s
Ben and Jerry were two men who made ice cream in Vermont long ago. Today's owners are taking themselves seriously and have decided to display their ignorance for all the world to see ("Ben & Jerry's boycott of settlements condemned by Israel officials," Web, July 19. Published July 21, 2021
Bezos money well spent
Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and world's wealthiest man, announced Tuesday after flying to the edge of space that he was awarding $100 million each to CNN contributor Van Jones and chef Jose Andres. Bezos said that Jones and Andres were free to do "what they want" with the money. "They can give it all to their own charity or they can share the wealth. It is up to them." The money, Bezos said, was tied to a "surprise" philanthropic initiative he called the "Courage and Civility Award." Published July 21, 2021
Sharks add more zest to TV than to soup
The curtain has fallen on another season of the Discovery Channel's "Shark Week," and summer beachgoers are left once again with nightmarish thoughts about what might be lurking beyond the breakers. Published July 21, 2021
CRT, race baiting upping hatred
Certain so-called Black "leaders" seem to want to create a gigantic tsunami of racism and hate in the U.S. ("If critical race theory is correct, is America worth defending?" Web, June 29). Published July 20, 2021
Mainstream news just shills for left
There are several truths that NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC and many social-media sites are not reporting. Why? Because these truth reveal the moral character of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party. Published July 20, 2021
Cancel Olympics
The COVID-19 news coming out of Tokyo is alarming. At the time of this writing, the number of Olympic athletes and staff testing postive for the virus is 61. How many more need to be identified before the games are postponed? Published July 20, 2021
EDITORIAL: Woke CNBC poll gives a boost to Terry McAuliffe
Is Virginia the best state in the nation to do business? Last week, a poll conducted by CNBC declared it so. Published July 20, 2021
Carter inflation all over again
You are not adequately explaining the dangers of Biden inflation. A huge factor in the inflation numbers is a very critical parallel with the Carter years. Published July 19, 2021
Keep opinions out of news
I have subscribed to the Washington Times since it first started publishing, and I have always been pleased that the editorial comments have appeared in the Commentary section, not the news sections. I am therefore dismayed by what I can only call editorializing in what was supposed to be a recent news story in the Times. Published July 19, 2021
The left, not Jan. 6, the big threat
How much longer is the American public going to allow the farce that is the Biden administration to go on? It was supposedly voted in on the premise that it would unify a divided country. Then why is there still a congressional Black caucus, and why are there demands for a Black national anthem sung along with the Star Spangled Banner at events? Why are minorities given privilege status by liberals? Published July 19, 2021
Biden promotes fossil fuel production, elsewhere
Things that don't kill you make you stronger, it is said. On the other hand, some of those things that don't kill you can make you deathly ill. Published July 19, 2021
Youth need guidance to shun crime
Every summer crime wave should remind us that we continue to ignore the elephant in the room regarding the reason so many Black youths get involved in criminal activity: how we raise our children. Published July 18, 2021
‘Heterophobia’ just as bad as homophobia
The majority of folks today are not homophobes. Good or bad, TV is responsible for that. So it's hard to understand why gay, lesbian and transgender people feel compelled to force their preferences on the rest of us. Published July 18, 2021
Biden destroying U.S. all on own
The U.N. harbors some of the worst human rights violators in the world. China mercilessly persecutes Falun Gong practitioners and harvests their organs for sale on the open market. Iran persecutes Baha'i believers and is a leading sponsor of terrorism. And Venezuela and North Korea routinely starve their people to death. These are the countries that are supposed to "investigate" the U.S.? Published July 18, 2021
