Trump vs. Big Censor: Free speech is worth rescuing

Donald Trump is attempting to bring to heel the triple-trouble social-media monster Facebook, Twitter and Google. It's a heroic and dangerous undertaking worthy of applause. Published July 11, 2021

Congress needs refresher course

Before newly elected legislators are sworn in, they attend orientation sessions during which they are taught how to set up an office and hire staff, as well as the process of passing legislation. Published July 8, 2021

Offer tax discounts to right IRS

I'm reading that because the Internal Revenue Service is understaffed and overworked (and well behind in getting tax refunds out because of the pandemic), one Washington scribe called it "critically malfunctioning" and a "hot mess." Published July 8, 2021

Don’t play into left’s hands

I wish your newspaper would stop using words and labels manufactured by the political left. Language is important and words have meaning. To slap a negative label on any group that has legitimate grievances is to play into the left's hands. Published July 7, 2021

Lockdown, mask naysayers were silenced

The RAND study is one of many studies demonstrating that there was no positive effect from the COVID-19 lockdowns and in fact, as one might guess, the lockdowns were positively correlated with excess, all-cause mortality ("Shelter-in-place orders didn't help, researchers find," Page 1, July 5). They may finish the wall after all

Like every other good American, I'm awfully tired of hearing about the crisis at our southern border ("Biden loses U.S. trust on immigration," Page 1, July 7). And I'm sick and tired of the Democrats not abiding by the U.S. Constitution and not protecting the sovereignty of our nation by completing the border wall and enforcing our nation's laws. These concerns set me to thinking. Published July 7, 2021

‘Green’ ideal raised COVID-19 deaths

"Shelter-in-place orders didn't help, researchers find" (Page 1, July 5) was interesting. I have not read the report mentioned, but I have heard sections of it quoted. I wonder if the authors are aware that ASHRAE, the society of engineers who do HVAC work, sent a team to look at what happened vis-a-vis COVID-19 in New York and Florida. There, I have been told, they found that COVID-19 spread most rapidly in heavily sealed buildings such as nursing homes and those compliant with the Green New Deal's ideals. Published July 6, 2021

Military should stay out of culture wars

Critical race theory teaches that America and its institutions are systemically racist, and that some races are inherently oppressive and privileged while others are inherently oppressed and victimized ("If critical race theory is correct, is America worth defending?" Web, June 29). Which Americans will raise their hands and pledge an oath to "support and defend" our Constitution if they're taught this document is inherently racist? Published July 6, 2021

Cosby deserved release

As someone who spent the bulk of their life in dysfunctional atmospheres rife with toxic masculinity, I champion any legislation which fights sexual violence, regardless of the gender involved ("Pa. court overturns Cosby's conviction, releases him from prison," Web, June 30). Americans paying for CCP’s misdeeds

It has been common knowledge for years that all major developing countries have possessed the ability to conduct germ warfare. The Wuhan crisis is no exception. Published July 5, 2021

See China for team assignment

U.S. Olympic Hammer throw qualifier Gwendolyn Berry turned her back on the national anthem while being recognized for her success ("Happy birthday America: Ask not 'What's in it for me?'" Web, July 1). Afterward she said, "My purpose and my mission is bigger than sports. I'm here to represent those ... who died due to systemic racism. That's the important part. That's why I'm going. That's why I'm here today." She added, "The anthem doesn't speak for me. It never has." Published July 5, 2021

Left reaping what it sowed

I hate to break it to the Democrats, but the salaries of local police are paid for by local funds. Period. We can quote the language of specific resolutions in the cities that are undergoing the crime waves to defund their police, and the statistics of police retirements and resignations that follow. Fans will foot bill for Snyder fine

The NFL has developed a don't-ask-don't-tell policy for team owners ("Snyder to step aside for 'several months' in scandal," Page 1, July 2). If you're OK with the outcome of the secret Dan Snyder investigation, you need to consider who is paying the imposed fine from the NFL. It is you, the fan. Published July 4, 2021

Biden: rude or anti-Semite panderer?

While "Biden says families in condo collapse raised climate change as possible cause" (Web, July 1), was it a major diplomatic faux pas or deference to the anti-Semitic elements of the Democratic Party that kept the president from properly recognizing the Israel Defense Forces delegation at the building collapse in Sunrise, Florida? These individuals specialize in search-and-rescue at bombed-out, destroyed buildings, and they are now working with our finest first responders at the site. Published July 4, 2021

Wake up to growing threats

Unchecked violent crime has increased dramatically in cities all across America. Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants -- including drug and human traffickers, violent criminals, gang members, those who may carry infectious diseases, and those who want to harm America and commit acts of terror -- are streaming across our border. The Biden administration is distributing these people by bus or plane in cities all our cities, including those near you. Published July 4, 2021
