What is the world coming to?
Watching fresh video of the Russian invasion of a sovereign neighbor, I'm reminded that, at the same time, the U.S. administration is preparing for the local invasion of tractor-trailer trucks driven by American drivers wishing to make a less-than-subtle point about freedom in America. Biden’s ‘yes men’ followed orders
"Biden's recurring Afghanistan nightmare" (Web, Feb. 22) notes that instead of doing their duty and resigning, our nation's admirals and generals merely did what they were told to do -- knowing that team Biden's Afghanistan withdrawal plan would result in disaster. Published February 23, 2022
Why don’t truckers strike instead?
Rather than protesting totalitarian government abuses by bringing trucks into a national capital and incurring punitive actions by clogging everything up, it seems to me a far better tactic for truckers would be to refuse to haul goods to those capitals. They would thereby deprive the vindictive creatures who live there of all the things they want. Published February 23, 2022
More lunacy from the left
Moving rapidly along from the sublime to the ridiculous, Canadian Member of Parliament Ya'ara Saks said that when truckers in the recent demonstration signaled one another with a brief "honk honk" of their horns, it actually meant "heil Hitler" ("Canadian lawmaker says 'honk honk' is code for 'heil Hitler,'" Web, Feb. 22). California’s not the only state
We've been seeing a plethora of news articles congratulating California for its ideas on environmental reforms and COVID-19 strategy. The state gets so much political coverage it's sometimes hard to remember there are 49 other states. Published February 22, 2022
What ‘anyone but Trump’ wrought
Two words best describe President Biden: incompetent and weak. Mr. Biden doesn't care that his agenda is hurting Americans and our country. He is cold and has no empathy or sympathy. Just look at Afghanistan. He turned his back on our people, abandoned them and ran. Look at our open southern border. Published February 22, 2022
Hit Russia where it hurts
Either we love liberty and are devoted to freedom or we don't understand what either word means. Half-hearted affections won't do. Half of freedom isn't free, half of liberty is still in bondage. Published February 22, 2022
GOP has huge opportunity
A hallmark of President Biden's campaign was his often-repeated pledge that he would not increase taxes on anyone earning less than $400,000 per year. He has honorably kept his word, but with one notable exception: rampant inflation, a plague which is categorized by many as a cruel tax. Published February 21, 2022
Protest response showed true colors
The protests of the Canadian truckers did not reflect any political movement. They represented working-class people and expressed the frustration of humans who believed in what they thought was a democratic society. Published February 21, 2022
Setting stage for war with Russia?
How would America react if Russia allied itself with Mexico and started bringing military hardware and military forces into that country? Our government would demand that Russia withdraw immediately. Mr. Putin is feeling the same way about Ukraine joining NATO. Published February 21, 2022
Media doing best to bury scandal
The recently released Durham report finally disclosed the truth about the Clinton campaign's 2016-2017 espionage scheme to defame and bring down the Trump presidency. Published February 18, 2022
Thank you, past presidents
Each year on the third Monday in February, we celebrate Presidents Day in honor of our first president, George Washington, and all those who have come after him to lead our great nation and shape our American heritage. Published February 18, 2022
‘Hillarygate’ a watershed moment
Interesting historical contrasts between Watergate and Hillary Clinton are set to play out as the findings of U.S. Special Prosecutor John Durham begin to drip out ("Trump, Fox News swing back at Hillary Clinton after she bashed them in New York speech," Web, Feb. 18). Published February 18, 2022
True Republican values
In "What Republicans should stand for" (Web, Feb. 15) Robert Tracci aptly details the legislative priorities that would advance Republican core values. But how many Americans can even identify core Republican values? Published February 17, 2022
Stop being so loose with ‘science’
As someone who has had three COVID-19-vaccine injections, as well as his annual influenza shot, I basically believe the science behind the stated safety and benefit of vaccines. Still, I feel the term "science" generally gets used a bit too readily and frequently, especially for political purposes. Published February 17, 2022
Trudeau the tyrant
Our northern neighbor and closest ally is not the same Canada that welcomed Vietnam War draft dodgers ("Canadian truckers defy PM Trudeau, remain entrenched in Ottawa," Web, Feb. 16). Published February 17, 2022
Change immunity laws, lower crime
The news is filled with stories in which grossly negligent decisions by prosecutors and judges result in horrific crimes. Such poor decisions also contribute in a major way to a rise in crime. Published February 16, 2022
Biden should ignore sex, race in pick
When picking a Supreme Court justice, I would think a president would look for someone with vast experience in constitutional law and cases that involve the constitutionality of laws coming out of Congress, such as gun-control laws, Build Back Better and trade deals that have proven so disastrous to the economy ("Biden narrows Supreme Court nominees shortlist to four Black female candidates," Web, Feb. 10). Seek Israel’s aid in missile defense
"Congress overdue to help fund Israel's Iron Dome" (Web, Feb. 15) makes a strong case for effective missile defense as a deterrent as well as a vital item once hostilities have started between nations. Published February 16, 2022
Allow open, fair debate on climate, virus
The Democrats, with help of the liberal mainstream media and politically partisan federal and administration directors, control two very important topics: climate change and COVID-19. Published February 15, 2022
