LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Mourning senseless murders

The case of Christopher Watts captured worldwide attention ("Colorado man discloses details about killing wife, daughters," Web, March 7). Social media has buzzed with discussion groups. The horrific and sudden obliteration of these innocent victims at the hands of their husband and father was unfathomable. Published March 10, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Climate change cause not settled

The mainstream media, and now conservative media, too, have adopted the term "climate change deniers" or "doubters" for any scientists who have data that does not support all levels of the contention that global warming or climate change is "real, dire and man-made." The mainstream media is proficient in coining names for things to give a negative connotation to anyone not accepting of their preferred spin on an issue. Published March 10, 2019

A San Diego TV station says the U.S. government ran an operation to screen journalists, activists and others while investigating last year's migrant caravan from Mexico. KNSD-TV says documents leaked by a Homeland Security source show a January database listing at least 10 journalists, seven of them U.S. citizens, as warranting secondary screening at U.S. points of entry. EDITORIAL: Crisis on the border

There are reasonable objections to President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency to use military appropriations to build a barrier on the U.S.-Mexican border. Published March 7, 2019

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: California right to shun fur

As someone who lives in California and is thrilled that state lawmakers are taking steps to ban fur, foie gras and other cruelly produced items, I'd like to respond to "California considers banning fur" (Web, March 4). Published March 7, 2019

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We must reduce flaring now

As a Texan who believes fossil-fuel use causes climate change, I find Ryan Sitton's March 4 op-ed misleading ("A nightmare for the American dream, and a tyrant's expensive fantasy," Web). Published March 7, 2019

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Left’s witch hunts outrageous

Now eight congressional committees are beginning the interrogation of more than 80 American citizens for the purpose of finding some criminal violation to pin on President Trump so they can either impeach him or force his resignation. Published March 6, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Insulin just a cash cow

What happens when the demand for a product goes down, or the manufacturer thinks that it will go down in the near future? The price drops ("Drugmaker Eli Lilly announces half-priced generic of its insulin product Humalog," Web, March 4). The good news/bad news story about insulin is that it was and is a lifesaver for Type 1 diabetics, but a lifelong, chronic, disease-causing option for Type 2 diabetics. Published March 5, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left must love Pence

Since they would have President Trump impeached tomorrow, the Democrats must love Vice President Mike Pence. After all, Mr. Pence would come into office the moment Mr. Trump was impeached. There would not be another election installing Hillary Clinton or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Oval Office. Apparently this is news to some. Published March 5, 2019

This March 23, 2018, file photo shows an envelope containing a 2018 census letter mailed to a U.S. resident as part of the nation's only test run of the 2020 Census. The Supreme Court will decide whether the 2020 census can include a question about citizenship that could affect the allocation of seats in the House of Representatives and the distribution of billions of dollars in federal money. EDITORIAL: States can a lot by attracting immigrants living illegally in the U.S. to pad the census

We've been told by Democrats presuming to know all about such things that open borders comprise a matter of high morality. What they don't say is that open borders are actually a matter of political power and money. As the 2020 census approaches, states are preparing to beat the bushes to turn up every last resident because the official tally will determine their number of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, which translates into the size of each state's piece of the national funding pie. Unless the U.S. Supreme Court intervenes, the difference between getting more and less could be determined by noncitizens, including illegal immigrants. Published March 4, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stop ballot harvesting

It appears House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to revisit the voting rights bill, on which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that requiring states to seek permission to change their voting laws was out of date. Whats's more interesting is the new studies showing that voter ID laws do not suppress voters from voting. It is not that difficult to obtain a photo ID from a department of motor vehicles. I did it for my wife. Published March 4, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Mueller on fool’s errand

Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the president is irrelevant because it's based on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance (FISA) Court Steele dossier. It was bought with Clinton Foundation money. Published March 4, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Get rid of Omar now

Surely it is time Minessota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was thrown out of the Democratic Party ("Ilhan Omar repeats anti-Semitic trop against Jewish congresswoman," Web, March 3). At a minimum, she should be relieved of her position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Published March 4, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Effects of lefty state migration

In "'The four states of the apocalypse'" (Web, Feb. 24), Stephen Moore deftly chronicles the mismanagement of the governments of five states hemorrhaging residents, especially rich residents, but he fails to note the not-so-great flip side. Yes, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Arizona and Georgia had the biggest net gains in state-to-state migration, but to what end, besides increasing their tax base? Published March 3, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Democrats’ Stalinist homage

Imagine my complete and utter joy when I heard the most well-known conservative radio host in America use the correct word to describe the Democrats in the House: "Stalinist." Published March 3, 2019

The flag of the European Union and the British national flags are flown on poles during a demonstration by remain in the EU outside spporters the Palace of Westminster in London, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. British Prime Minister Theresa May says she will give British lawmakers a choice of approving her divorce agreement, leaving the EU March 29 without a deal or asking to delay Brexit by up to three months. EDITORIAL: We need a festival to save Britain and celebrate the Special Relationship

The petty internal squabbles and wars of the Europeans were once thought below the concern of Englishmen, our stuffy cousins across the waters. But members of both Conservative and Labor parties are fighting fiercely among themselves now over the wisdom — indeed, the propriety — of leaving the European Union. Published March 3, 2019

EDITORIAL: Disappointment in Hanoi

The Hanoi summit was supposed to have been where, building on the goodwill (and not much else) of their meeting in Singapore eight months earlier, real progress would be made toward eliminating North Korea's nuclear-weapons program, and in return, granting sanctions relief. In the event, the Hanoi summit was the ultimate nothingburger. Published February 28, 2019
