LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Steinem’s abortion deceit

What does Gloria Steinem's assertation that "Our ability, men and women, to make decision over our own bodies is the first step of democracy" have to do with abortion ("Below the belt: Gloria Steinem mocks 'flaccid' Trump at Planned Parenthood event," Web, April 4)? The matter of abortion comes down to a very simple question: At what point in a human being's development are other humans no longer allowed to kill him or her in the most horrible way imaginable? If you refuse to give an exact point in the human-development timeline and then logically defend that as being the time when a person gains the inviolable right to life, you're just being intellectually deceitful. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: To left, lies just ‘pre-truth’

Adolf Hitler's propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, is famous for having declared: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." The liberal Democratic machine must surely have known that, because for the past two-and-a-half years they've been testing it. Sadly, however, Goebbels failed to say what happens when 'the big lie' is disproven, as in the case of the Democrats' mantra, 'Trump colluded with the Russians,' which was recently repudiated by the Mueller report. (Maybe that never happened in Nazi Germany, for they had "absolute" control of the justice system and even better control of the media.) Published April 7, 2019

EDITORIAL: Mike Pence tells the NATO slackers to get with the program

The president gave his cable-TV hosts and the Twitterati a chuckle this week when he said, in a sort of Pocahontas moment, that his father, Fred Trump, was born in Germany. Mr. Trump the elder was, in fact, born in the Bronx. But there was actually more consequential news about Germany this week. Published April 4, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: God, not man, the creator

Our ever-changing cultural norms reached a new low recently. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a professing Catholic, not only signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, making abortion legal up to the day of birth, he also proclaimed a time of celebration where New York landmarks would be lit in pink to commemorate the event. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Probe Mueller probe

I've had it, and the public should also be angered by Democratic congressional subcommittees behaving like juveniles when things don't materialize in their favor. Not since before the Democrats gained control of the House has this behavior been so apparent. Published April 4, 2019

EDITORIAL: Jamal Khashoggi’s story casts shadow over Saudi ambassador meeting

Six months have elapsed since Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi newspaper columnist and blogger, went missing. He is widely believed to have been murdered by agents working for someone high inside the Saudi government who found his criticism of the Riyadh regime and the royal family intolerable. Without a body — his body is thought to have been dismembered and the body parts scattered around Istanbul — it's hard to say. Published April 3, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Prison for murder is not justice

Contrary to current popular opinion and political correctness, I have always been an advocate of the death penalty for those who have committed heinous crimes. This belief has been reinforced now by the brutal murder last week of Samantha Josephson, who was murdered after getting into a car she mistook for her Uber ("Ride share mistake led to college student's death, police say," Web, March 31). LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Border wall a no-brainer

A Long Island MS-13 killer who was deported has been recaptured back on Long Island. Translation: The U.S. government dutifully got rid of the problem that shouldn't have been here in the first place, but because there's no wall on our southern border, the problem came right back. EDITORIAL: Joe Biden may be an over-the-top flirt, but he’s not a serial rapist

Joe Biden has led the polls of Democratic primary voters for a while now. But like all leaders in these early polls, he's a bit of a paper tiger, benefiting from name recognition, and even the fact that he is not running for anything. At least not yet; there are, or were, rumors of a late April announcement. Published April 2, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Bolster Taiwan’s defenses now

April 10 will mark the 40th anniversary of the U.S. enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), which has been the foundation of a strong history of trust and cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. However, on Sunday two Chinese J-11 fighter jets crossed the Taiwan Strait's "median line," stoking a 10-minute standoff with Taiwanese jets in the island's airspace. The situation in the Taiwan Strait is treacherous and the potential for a war between Taiwan and China is likely to grow in 2019. The tensions have been escalated since China's President Xi Jinping warned Taiwan that unification must be the ultimate goal and that efforts to assert full independence could be met by armed force. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Still dependent on deterrence

Ed Feulner's Commentary piece on the success of a recent U.S. missile-defense system test expresses confidence in our capabilities in this important area of national security ("Another high-flying success for missile defense," Web, April 1). Published April 2, 2019

EDITORIAL: America cannot surrender its borders to visitors

"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong," observed H.L. Mencken, the sage of Baltimore who was the most popular social critic of the previous century. Sadly, Mencken isn't around to address the scourge of the 21st century, the obstinate refusal of Democrats to admit that there is an obvious problem, complex or otherwise. The liberals who call themselves "progressives" pretend not to notice the relentless stream of humanity trying to force their way across America's southern border. Published April 1, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left prefers Trump to Pence?

I was worried when President Trump hired Mick Mulvaney as not only his budget director, but also as his chief of staff. I've heard from several reliable sources that it is largely Mr. Mulvaney who is behind Mr. Trump's current budget proposal, which would deeply cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Mr. Mulvaney is also behind Mr. Trump's efforts to abolish Obamacare. Published April 1, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Too much information

"Deploying military forces overseas" (Web, March 31) was appropriate for April Fools' Day. I agree that everything discussed is probably in need of rebuilding after the devastating gutting of the military by the Obama administration. But I have a hard time with all the information outlined and attributed to Gen. Robert Brown, commander of Army forces in the Pacific. Published April 1, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Obamas misuse influence again

It is becoming apparent that former first lady Michelle Obama, possibly in step with husband Barack, placed her considerable political and social weight on the scales of justice and intimidated an already corrupt system to free a criminal from justice ("State's Attorney Kim Foxx says Jussie Smollett treated same as anyone else," Web, March 27). Actor Jussie Smollett's story involved major finger pointing at not only President Trump's supporters, but of course (the main target of this vile fabrication) Mr. Trump himself. Published March 31, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Investigate left’s collusion

It's reality-check time. The Democrats lied about the president and his part in the Russian-influence scandal. The Democratic central office and Hillary Clinton had more to do with this foreign power when it came to trying to turn our votes. Published March 31, 2019

EDITORIAL: With friends like these

It wasn't supposed to go down this way. When Democrats who said they wanted a congressional resolution calling for a global fight against global warming, were forced to declare their allegiance to the cause, they ran for the tall grass. Published March 28, 2019
