LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A Carson ‘apology’ to Obama

As has been widely reported, President Obama fell into a juvenile snit after being criticized by Dr. Ben Carson at a prayer breakfast in 2013. As the story goes, the president, through the breakfast organizers, White House staff or both let it be known that he expected an apology. The good doctor declined. Published April 18, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Transparency for thee, not me

On April 11, National Public Radio show host Diane Rehm, with a decidedly liberal bias, spent much of her show decrying the secrecy behind salaries. It seemed to me that Ms. Rehm was advocating more transparency to make it easier for women to bring lawsuits on the issue of compensation, but when a caller to the show asked about Ms. Rehm's own salary, Ms. Rehm declined to reveal it. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: What rule of law?

Apparently if we don't support President Obama in everything he proposes, we are racist in the minds of the media. However, the fact that Mr. Obama was elected in the first place is proof that the majority of Americans are not racist. Published April 18, 2014

EDITORIAL: The Passion of Good Friday

Straightaway in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered Him to Pilate. Published April 18, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: An honorable president would resign

The man who lied to us about keeping our health plans if we liked them has outdone himself by telling us that there was not even "a smidgen of corruption" involved when the IRS targeted conservative groups during the 2012 presidential campaign. Published April 17, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bundy support a modern-day Tiananmen protest

In recent days, Cliven Bundy's Nevada ranch has been under duress, with federal agents stealing his livestock, assaulting his family and threatening family members with firearms ("Rand and Ron Paul ride to the rescue for Bundy in Nevada standoff with feds," Web, April 16). Published April 17, 2014

EDITORIAL: A rebuke for Common Cause, four House Democrats

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Tuesday spiked a cockamamie scheme originated by Common Cause, a liberal lobbying group, to rewrite the rules of the U.S. Senate to make it easier to silence minority voices. Published April 16, 2014

FILE - In this Aug. 19, 2013 file photo, then New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, left, speaks at a news conference in New York where the announcement was made regarding the arrest of 19 people and seizure of 254 guns as part of gun smuggling between the Carolinas and New York. The former mayor, a billionaire and advocate of firearms regulation, plans to spend $50 million this year setting up a new group that will mix campaign contributions with field operations aimed at pulling gun-control supporters to the polls. The new organization, Everytown for Gun Safety, will focus on women, especially mothers, The New York Times reported on its website, Tuesday April 15, 2014. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan, File)

EDITORIAL: Sainthood for gun-grabbing ex-Mayor Bloomberg?

Mike Bloomberg is a saint in his own mind (nowhere else matters). "I have earned my place in heaven," the billionaire ex-mayor told The New York Times. He thinks he's buying an indulgence with the $50 million he says he will spend this year to support politicians who think like he does on gun control. Published April 16, 2014

EDITORIAL: Got (raw) milk?

The food police are growing bolder. SWAT teams in body armor with automatic weapons descend on farmers markets and local co-ops looking for illicit goods. These troops are going after dangerous contraband — raw, unpasteurized milk, just as it comes out of a cow. Published April 16, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: High heels: Hazardous to one’s health?

Run an Internet search for "Ana Trujillo guilty" and you will read the gruesome details of how Ms. Trujillo perforated her boyfriend to death with stiletto heels. Search online for "Hillary attacked" and you'll get millions of websites describing how the former first lady narrowly cheated death when another apparently deranged woman wearing stiletto shoes threw one of the shoes at her. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Muhammad wouldn’t condone Boston bombing

April 15 usually reminds me as an accountant of taxes, but this year I remembered the horrific events of the Boston Marathon tragedy, where Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, claiming to be Muslims, mercilessly harmed more than 260 people. Published April 16, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Obamacare disasters were avoidable

The political abattoir in which Democratic butchers of Obamacare slice, dice, gut and carve this "settled law" into morsels more palatable to Democrats in November elections has so bloodied the terrain that Obamacare champions must deny the obvious and hope that there are no sentient voters come Election Day. Published April 16, 2014

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Bundy support demonstrates voters’ distrust

Nevada cattle rancher Cliven Bundy's family has owned the Bundy ranch since the 1870s. For the past 20 years, Mr. Bundy has grazed his cattle on land the federal government now claims it owns ("Nevada ranch standoff could leave dirt on Harry Reid's reputation," Web, April 13). EDITORIAL: Amnesty for illegals and a permanent Democratic majority

Democrats eager to enact amnesty are telling Republicans it's not in their interests to stand in the way of comprehensive immigration reform. Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez of Illinois says he wants to "to save [Republicans] from ... opponents of legal immigration and immigration reform." Published April 15, 2014
