LETTER TO THE EDITOR: ‘War on Poverty’ still just a war on business
The same percentage of people live in poverty now as lived in it 50 years ago, when President Lyndon Johnson declared his "War on Poverty." Published May 8, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Abortion disproportionately hits black community
"Margaret Sanger, racist eugenicist extraordinaire" (Web, May 5) states that "between 2007 and 2010, nearly 36 percent of all abortions in the United States were performed on black children, even though black Americans make up only 13 percent of our population." Published May 8, 2014
EDITORIAL: Changing the tax climate
The White House looked in its crystal ball Tuesday and saw a grim future of tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards and spring showers wreaking havoc across the nation. "Climate conditions are changing," the U.S. Global Change Research Program proclaimed, "and are projected to continue to change." This is presumably what President Obama meant when he campaigned on "change we can believe in." Published May 7, 2014
EDITORIAL: No rooms for lawbreakers
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says America should celebrate Cinco de Mayo by enacting an amnesty for illegal aliens. The U.S. Supreme Court celebrated the Mexican national holiday this week with a brighter idea. Published May 7, 2014
EDITORIAL: Rebuke for John Doe
Campaign finance laws have become the liberal weapon of choice to silence conservatives. This is lately demonstrated in Wisconsin, where a Milwaukee County district attorney has spent the past four years using an obscure "John Doe" investigation to harass prominent Republicans. A federal judge put an end to the vendetta Tuesday. Published May 7, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Party-line votes keep RINOs in power
Columnist David A. Keene is correct only in his premise ("High stakes in the GOP primaries," Web, May 2). He suggests voting only for Republican incumbents in the upcoming primaries. He writes that the one circumstance where it is acceptable to vote for the challenger is in "heavily Republican" states. This is "without risking loss" of the seat. Published May 7, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Benghazi is grounds for impeachment
Jeffrey H. Birnbaum overlooks two major points in citing the cascade of events pointing to not just ineptitude, but to lack of honor by the current president ("Ruing the Benghazi ruse," Web, May 5). The first is the now-indisputable fact that President Obama lied about Americans being able to keep their doctors and health plans under Obamacare. Why? To take federal control of formerly free-enterprise U.S. health care, of course. While a demonstrated propensity to lie isn't objective proof, public opinion doesn't follow formal rules of evidence. Published May 7, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: True leaders vote for what’s right
In "House GOP probes on IRS, Benghazi bring peril for Dems" (Web, May 4) Washington Times reporter Stephen Dinan includes a short paragraph that I believe identifies the underlying, fundamental problem that has evolved in our Congress and our political process. Published May 7, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: American flag is not offensive
Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Calif., banned students wearing clothing depicting the American flag on a foreign holiday, Cinco de Mayo, because such clothing might offend some Latino students ("Protesters wave American flags outside school that banned them on Cinco de Mayo," Web, May 5). Published May 7, 2014
EDITORIAL: A climate change of subject and ‘disruption’
Democrats are desperate to change the subject. Published May 6, 2014
EDITORIAL: The Supreme Court saves a public prayer
The professional grievance industry suffered a sharp setback Monday when the Supreme Court ruled that a prayer does not offend the Constitution. Published May 6, 2014
EDITORIAL: An unaccountable Postal Service drowns in red ink
The U.S. Postal Service is in precarious shape. Published May 6, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Carney still weaving, still deceiving
After watching White House spokesman Jay Carney respond to questions from the news media regarding an email about the Benghazi killings, it was clear that Mr. Carney has no conception of reality or the truth. Published May 6, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: National Parks preserve America’s heritage
The Washington Times editorial, "A haircut for the National Park Service" (April 22), urging the government to dump costly, unpopular sites, offers a shortsighted view that, fortunately, is not shared by the majority of Americans. Published May 6, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Obama means opposite of his statements
"The stimulus will create shovel-ready jobs." "Unemployment will not exceed 8 percent." "You can keep your doctor." "Assad must go." Published May 6, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Remove ‘Asian’ from all monikers?
On May 5, Minnesota lawmakers approved state Sen. John Hoffman's bill to change the name of a fish from "Asian carp" to "invasive carp." Published May 6, 2014
EDITORIAL: Obama’s interstate highway-robbery scheme
The White House is far from done with the promised "fundamental transformation" of society. Published May 5, 2014
EDITORIAL: Virginia GOP must push back against Herring’s lawlessness
President Obama says it's up to him to decide which laws he will faithfully execute and which ones he will ignore or alter with the stroke of his pen. Published May 5, 2014
EDITORIAL: Tempting Mount Everest
The majestic mountain that rises above all others has once more conquered its suitors. Published May 5, 2014
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Keep Benghazi on front page
I was happy and relieved to see The Washington Times' May 2 front-page coverage of the latest developments on the Benghazi scandal — and it is a scandal. Published May 5, 2014
