EDITORIAL: Obama’s indifference to security sparks gun sales

The greatest gun salesman in America would probably never own one. Anyone who travels with a squad of heavily armed security men doesn't need one. As the most powerful man in the world, Barack Obama detests anything that empowers the individual, and this requires persuading his constituents they need not take responsibility for their own protection. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Donald Trump’s ban idea a good one

Well, that's rich. The Obama White House is saying that Donald Trump's call to shut Muslims out of the country is "disqualifying" -- meaning it should disqualify him as a presidential candidate. But in the wake of the recent Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., mass killings, Mr. Trump simply calls it "common-sense." Published December 9, 2015

Despite condemnation from all corners of the Republican establishment and its presidential candidates, front-runner Donald Trump's comments about keeping Muslims out of the U.S. hasn't harmed his poll numbers in the key state of New Hampshire. (Associated Press)

EDITORIAL: Donald Trump saying what American’s think

Donald Trump is a creature of the Republican establishment, and the establishment doesn't know what to do about him. They're adding two more debates to gain time to beat up the Donald, which is likelier only to give him more time and opportunity to thrive and prosper. Published December 9, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Ted Cruz worthiest Republican contender

There are 16 candidates seeking the Republican nomination for president in 2016, but there is only one who understands the U.S. Constitution: Sen. Ted Cruz. Most of the other Republican candidates believe in an ever-expanding federal government, and all the remaining governors or former governors fall into that group, Published December 8, 2015

President Barack Obama addresses the nation from the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, Sunday night, Dec. 6, 2016. The address comes as recent attacks in Paris and California have raised concerns that the U.S. and other countries aren’t doing enough to prevent terror attacks. (Saul Loeb/Pool Photo via AP)

EDITORIAL: President Obama’s ISIS new strategy

With his fantasy world caving in on him, President Obama is searching for something, anything, that he can make look like an accomplishment. He wants to make more gun control the great accomplishment of his last year in office, but he knows that more such legislation will be dead on arrival on Capitol Hill. Published December 8, 2015

The Paris conference is the 21st time world governments are meeting to seek a joint solution to climate change. The talks are focused on reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, primarily by shifting from oil, coal and gas to cleaner sources of energy. (AP Photo/Christophe Ena)

EDITORIAL: Climate change skepticism on trial in Paris

If the climate change lobby prevails, anyone unwilling to bow to the extremist environmental orthodoxy won't be allowed to speak. As the United Nations Climate Change Conference enters its final week in Paris, green groups have a message for scientific skeptics: Shut up and get out. So much for science and free speech in the City of Light. Published December 8, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Hamas: Jew-hating before health

Charles De Gaulle is reported to have said, "God protects fools, drunks and the United States of America. Today, we could add Israel to that list. Clifford May's colun "Unexpected miracle in the Holy Land" (Web, Dec. 1) is truly eye-opening and welcome. Published December 7, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Don’t count on Obama for protection

I'm not interested in what the president says the government is doing to protect me from radical Islamic terrorists. Did it work in San Bernardino? No. Fourteen people died at the hands of Islamic State conspirators in the single deadliest terrorist attack on American soil since Sept. 11, 2001. Published December 7, 2015

A customers prepares to pump gas on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at a gas station in Pembroke, Mass. The price of a barrel of oil fell Monday to a nearly seven-year low. With OPEC's decision to keep pumping at current levels, analysts expect oil to remain relatively cheap well into 2016 and maybe longer. (AP Photo/Stephan Savoia)

EDITORIAL: EPA’s wasted ethanol rules

The Obama administration's mandate that Americans must pour ethanol into their vehicle gas tanks is getting cornier. It's an example of a policy at war with reality. When government distorts market forces to favor a political outcome, the result is predictable, something between moonshine and nonsense. Published December 7, 2015

President Barack Obama addresses the nation from the Oval Office at the White House in Washington, Sunday night, Dec. 6, 2016. The president announced no significant shift in U.S. strategy and offered no new policy prescriptions for defeating the Islamic State, underscoring both his confidence in his current approach and the lack of easy options for countering the extremist group. EDITORIAL: Obama fails to reassure on ISIS

President Obama can't give up his notion that ISIS is the "junior varsity," trying to play with the big boys and not worthy of the attention of a president of the United States. He continued Sunday night to portray the San Bernardino massacre and the expanding threat to the Middle East -- and now to the world -- as anything but what it is. Published December 7, 2015

President Obama did not mention Russia's stepped-up military campaign when addressing efforts being made with "our closest allies" to destroy the Islamic State in Syria, also knows as ISIS and ISL, which he said include increased intelligence cooperation, disrupting the group's international funding system and pursuing a cease-fire and political settlement to the Syrian civil war. (Associated Press)

Obama doesn’t include Russia in list of allies in terror fight

President Obama appeared to take a veiled shot at Russia during his prime-time address, excluding it from the "friends and allies" he said are working most closely with the United States to defeat the Islamic State and radical Islamic movements in the wake of last week's terror attack in California. EDITORIAL: Loose talk about free speech

The First Amendment is the greatest gift the founding fathers bequeathed to us, because it's free speech that makes everything possible. The First Amendment does not guarantee nice speech, or good speech, or friendly speech, or even responsible speech. It guarantees free speech, the right of every American to say what he thinks, even if he thinks rude and disrespectful things. Published December 6, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: All lives matter

Democrats who support abortions and are blaming Republican rhetoric for the Planned Parenthood facility shooting should be pointing the blame at themselves. They are advocating abortions that kill approximately 1.5 million babies a year, as well as the harvesting and selling of fetal body parts. Published December 6, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: No more campaigner in chief

One of the duties of the commander in chief is acting quickly to deploy troops and/or warships and ordering airstrikes to protect Americans and national interests. Published December 6, 2015

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addresses a labor union meeting in Ankara, Turkey, Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015. Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Thursday hinted at more sanctions against Turkey and accused Turkey of a "treacherous war crime" in downing a Russian jet at the border with Syria. Erdogan has hotly denied that his country was involved in oil trade with the Islamic State group , and has pledged to step down if Moscow proves its accusations. EDITORIAL: Recep Tayyip Erdogan weak link in coalition to protect West

For a century Europe was dogged by "the sick man of Europe," the collapsing Ottoman Empire and what it meant for the major European powers. Multi-ethnic empires are a thing of the past now. Their death rattle followed the noisy implosion of the Soviet Union. But the Ottoman successor, the Turkish Republic, is luring the Europeans further into the troubles and miseries of the Middle East. Published December 6, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Terrorists don’t stop for ‘global warming’

For a fellow who presents himself as being very intelligent, President Obama comes off as a foolish leader because he hasn't puzzled out the simple truth. Like many Democrats, he repeatedly harnesses up his donkey behind the national cart, then climbs up on the seat and contemplates why forward progress is so difficult. Published December 3, 2015

EDITORIAL: Cellphones a deadly menace on American roads

Distracted drivers, and there are apparently a lot of them, are the shame of the American road. Many of them are electronic addicts who just can't leave their cell phones and other devices alone. Distracted driving should be regarded as politically incorrect, though it's more serious than being merely politically correct, and it's certainly socially unacceptable. Published December 3, 2015

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Obama refuses to recognize threat

As soon as the smoke cleared from the San Bernardino, Calif., massacre on Dec. 2, our president, the 2016 Democratic presidential candidates, other Democrats and media members began calling for legislation to outlaw Americans' First Amendment right to possess the means to protect their lives and property.
