Minor-league report
Here is the Nationals' weekly minor-league report, unabated to the reader from media relations coordinator/minor league guru Bill Gluvna:
Deep thoughts with Paul Lo Duca
Just wanted to pass along a little more of what Paul Lo Duca said after the Nationals' 5-4 win over the Angels last night. He talked at length about what he told teammates during a team meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Some of it gets pretty deep, almost philosophical. Here are some of the more insightful excerpts:
Hill to DL, Perez activated
As expected, the Nationals have placed Shawn Hill on the 15-day DL with a strained right forearm. They've also activated Odalis Perez off the 15-day DL, and Perez will start tomorrow night against the Orioles, his first appearance since left shoulder tendinitis sidelined him back on June 3.
Hill update
Right-hander Shawn Hill was evaluated by Dr. Bernard Morrey and Dr. Scott Steinmann, who performed a bone scan and MRI and found no evidence of structural injury to Hill's forearm.
Test Abe for steroids!
Is anyone else getting sick of watching Abe dominate his way through every Presidents Race? He just stormed from the back of the pack to win by at least 15 lengths, aided by Teddy chasing after a giant penguin.
Lo Duca OK
Just wanted to post an update on something I didn't have room for in the notebook: Paul Lo Duca is doing fine a day after leaving in the second inning with light-headedness. He is not in the lineup tonight, but is available to pinch hit.

Nationals lose; Hill likely to DL
The big news out of this one is that Shawn Hill will receive another opinion from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on the forearm pain that's been plaguing him all season.
Johnson done for year
Nick Johnson's worst fears were confirmed today: He's out for the rest of the season.
Surgery for Johnson
The word from the Mayo Clinic is in, and it's not good: Nick Johnson will have arthroscopic surgery tomorrow on his injured right wrist. According to GM Jim Bowden, the veteran first baseman could miss the remainder of the season.
Baseball vs. Football, George Carlin style
This post isn't about the Nats. It's about today's sad news from the comedy world. Thus, in honor of the late, great George Carlin, here's his classic take on the differences between baseball and football.
Marrero out for season
Chris Marrero, the Nationals' top-rated prospect, will miss the rest of the season after tests concluded he broke his fibula sliding into home plate on Wednesday.
Dukes on fire, Langerhans sent down
How about that Elijah Dukes? He may make plenty of news off the field, but right now he's making a lot more on the field.
