LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Judge’s Islamism take troubling

Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ordered that "an Islamic scholar serving a life sentence for soliciting treason after the Sept. 11 attacks be released from custody while he pursues his appeal" ("Islamic scholar ordered released while appeal is pursued," Aug. 18). Whatever the merits of her decision, a previously published statement by Judge Brinkema that she "was never worried about Muslim extremism" raises serious concern. One hopes that she was simply expressing her confidence in the FBI and other U.S. agencies. If, on the other hand, she was expressing trust in the good offices of radical Islam, America would be well served by her recusal from all cases involving the same. Published August 27, 2020

EDITORIAL: Silence is violence

Portland, Oregon, as of this writing, is enjoying it's 90th day of consecutive rioting. This past Tuesday, protesters kept up the tradition of vandalizing and breaking into City Hall, attacking police officers and destroying businesses. The day prior they burned the police union headquarters. Published August 26, 2020

EDITORIAL: The Conways set an example for America

"I will be transitioning from the White House at the end of this month. George is also making changes. We disagree about plenty but we are united on what matters most: the kids For now, and for my beloved children, it will be less drama, more mama." Published August 25, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Despite left, Trump has triumphed

Kevin Clinesmith, a former FBI lawyer, has pleaded guilty to one felony count of falsifying information to frame former Trump adviser Carter Page ("Kevin Clinesmith, former FBI lawyer, pleads guilty to falsifying Carter Page documents," Web, Aug. 19). This arrest implicates former President Obama, former National Security adviser Susan Rice, former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, former FBI Director James Comey and now-candidate Joe Biden, who sabotaged the Trump administration for approximately four years. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Same old, same old

Remove one protest sign from the Gen. Robert E. Lee statue area in Richmond, Virgina, and there's immediately an all-points bulletin put out. Yet, throughout the past several months of destruction, in which Monument Avenue residents have had to deal with unruly, law-breaking, mob-like crowds, the city administration turned a blind eye to locals' plight. Now that Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney's agenda of statue removal has been fulfilled, shouldn't it be time to let the police get involved and solve some of these crimes? Published August 25, 2020

EDITORIAL: Both parties need to assure public they’ll accept election results

Recently, David Plouffe, erstwhile 2008 Barack Obama campaign manager, remarked after watching the former president's speech at this year's virtual DNC convention that "there has never been one like that [referring to Mr. Obama's rhetoric] It's alarming to hear it. He's basically saying if this election goes to Donald Trump, our democracy could be over." Published August 24, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: ‘Woke folk’ will hand Trump victory

President Donald Trump is laughing all the way not only to a second term, but also to the bank. This is courtesy of inept Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi; 'woke folk' Barack Obama (who got elected by a lot of so-called "privileged" White folks) and his missus; Hollywood/entertainment-industry "glitterati gladiators"; academia and much of the mainstream media. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: All fuels needed now

"'Forcing Americans in the dark': Green energy push blamed in California's rolling blackouts" (Web, Aug. 18) shows the reality check required for the Green New Deal in both theory and practice. The rolling blackouts experienced by California are only a start in regard to what happens when energy idealism gets too far head of reality. Published August 24, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Black babies’ lives matter, too

BLM? What about BBLM — Black babies' lives matter? Now-disgraced Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics, specifically the practice of reducing the number of Blacks in order to improve the genetic quality of the human race. Nice, huh? She once wrote in a letter, "We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population " If you don't believe any of this, do some real research on her. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Does ‘diversity’ include GOP?

During the 2020 Democratic National Convention, five Republicans crossed the aisle to speak and endorse Joe Biden for president: John Kasich, Susan Molinari, Colin Powell, Christine Whitman and Meg Whitman. Mr. Biden promised that if elected president he would have the most diverse cabinet and administration in history, representing the gorgeous American mosaic. He also promised to appoint the first female African-American Supreme Court justice. Published August 23, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Democrats the divisive ones

After more than four-and-a-half years of false, divisive, disingenuous attacks on President Trump, his associates and Republicans in general, the Democrats are now suposedly running on a platform of bringing the country together. Really? These are the same Democrats who hired a foreign national to create the phony Steele Dossier. They corrupted the FBI and Department of Justice to do their bidding promoting false claims about Russian collusion. Published August 20, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: USPS, voter turnout unrelated

The current furor over the U.S. Postal Service and the potential use of mail-in balloting is utter nonsense. The post office has run with excessive costs for decades, and Congress has simply ignored its responsibility to fix the problem. It goes even further than that, though. Between 1840 and 1900, U.S. voter turnout averaged in the upper 70% range. And remember, voters back then got to the polls on foot or on horseback. In contrast, from 1972 through today voter turnout has averageed in the mid-50% range. Published August 20, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don’t sit idly by

Does anybody out there care that Black Lives Matters, Antifa and the Pacific Northwest Youth Liberation front are killing people? Or is this another case of "I don't care unless it happens to me?" Have Americans become so utterly weak and pacified that they will sit by and simply watch as innocent men, women and children are murdered by thugs paid by George Soros? Published August 19, 2020

EDITORIAL: Democrats intend to deliver an Election Day crisis

At the same time they're pushing universal vote by mail, Democrats are claiming that President Trump is setting up legions of postal workers to take the fall if the vote tally goes south. It's a manufactured crisis, and is likely to do more harm to the electoral system than good. Published August 19, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Officers deserve better

The police need to announce that they have developed a severe case of "Blue Flu" and will no longer be reporting to work. This flu, they should tell the public and politicians, can only be "cured" if both mayor and city councils announce that anyone who attempts to do anything likely to kill or seriously maim law enforcement or destroys government property will be shot with a lethal weapon. Anyone near said individuals may end up dead, too, because collateral damage cannot be avoided in combat. Published August 19, 2020

EDITORIAL: Pardoning Snowden sends wrong message

In May 2013, Edward Joseph Snowden, a contractor working for the National Security Agency, illegally obtained -- and then transferred to a handful of journalists -- millions of highly classified documents detailing the inner workings of America's leading intelligence agency. He then fled to Hong Kong and, later, Russia, where he presently resides. Published August 18, 2020

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Mandate mental fitness

There are amendments to the U.S. Constitution that address incapacity of the president while in office. However, without means to address the health of the candidate, those measures are insufficient. Two approaches can go a long way toward assuring the American people and the world of the medical fitness of a presidential candidate. Published August 18, 2020
