EDITORIAL: The race card canard
The most despicable smear to come out of weekend rallies in Washington were unsubstantiated charges that Obamacare protesters shouted racial slurs at black members of Congress walking from the Cannon House Office Building to the Capitol. No evidence backs this up. Published March 23, 2010
EDITORIAL: Eric Holder on the griddle
Not since Watergate's John Mitchell has a U.S. attorney general prepared for a Senate appearance under fire on as many different fronts as Eric H. Holder Jr. will face today before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He deserves to feel the heat. Published March 23, 2010
BLANKLEY: Sunday’s socialist triumph
Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday launched the Democrats' argument for the health care bill, claiming, "This is an American proposal that honors the traditions of our country." Does that suggest that opposition is un-American? And what are the traditions that are American that this law fulfills? The Democrats argue that the bill fulfills the "right" of all Americans to government-assured health care services. The congressional Democrats claim many other things that a majority of the country believes to be inconsistent with truth and reality. Published March 22, 2010
EDITORIAL: Bart Stupak, coward
Rep. Bart Stupak, Michigan Democrat, sounded good when he held himself up as the pro-life hero standing against his party's Published March 22, 2010
EDITORIAL: Democrats deemed dead
The government takeover of health care was completed Sunday in a dramatic up-or-down deeming. It will go down in history as the worst piece of legislation to emerge from a Congress held in general disdain by the American people. Published March 22, 2010
EDITORIAL: GOP senators must give up pork
House Republicans unilaterally decided last week to give up earmarks for at least one year. With this simple step, they demonstrated to voters that they deserve to win back the congressional majority. Now it's time for Senate Republicans to do the same. Published March 22, 2010
EDITORIAL: Democrats’ death by suicide
The government takeover of health care will go down in history as the worst piece of legislation to emerge from a Congress held in general disdain by the American people. Published March 21, 2010
EDITORIAL: Property rights in the sewer
Property owners in Brooklyn continued protesting Tuesday as the New Jersey Nets officially broke ground for a new arena on land the owners never wanted to sell. Washington-area residents should take heed: Governmental abuse of property rights isn't just a New York problem. The latest local assault on private property is occurring in Alexandria and is set to go to trial May 24. Published March 21, 2010

EDITORIAL: WWII: The most racist generation
Was the "Greatest Generation" just a bunch of racists? Actor and producer Tom Hanks, promoting his new World War II series "The Pacific," suggested that the war with Japan was really all about American intolerance; and by the way, so is the war on terrorism. Published March 19, 2010
EDITORIAL: Hiding the true cost of Obamacare
President Obama keeps saying America needs the Democrats' health care bill to reduce costs. In reality, the government takeover of health care will raise costs and cause a large number of people to lose their health insurance. Published March 19, 2010
EDITORIAL: Risks for Obamacare backers
Too many members of Congress think passing a constitutionally dubious bill is politically safe because responsibility will fall on the courts to give a final yea or nay. The Democrats' government health care takeover is different. Every potential constitutional violation involved with Obamacare presents a grave political threat to every wavering congressman who votes for it. The only way to avoid being haunted for years is to kill Obamacare now. Published March 18, 2010
EDITORIAL: Obama surrenders gulf oil to Moscow
The Obama administration is poised to ban offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf until 2012 or beyond. Meanwhile, Russia is making a bold strategic leap to begin drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. While the United States attempts to shift gears to alternative fuels to battle the purported evils of carbon emissions, Russia will erect oil derricks off the Cuban coast. Published March 18, 2010
EDITORIAL: Misunderstanding free trade
President Obama finally spoke out in favor of "free" trade last week, though his version of free trade is one that only a mercantilist would recognize. Speaking at the Export-Import Bank's annual conference, Mr. Obama said an "obstacle that our exporters face is that the federal government frankly just hasn't done a good enough job advocating for them abroad." Like everything with this administration, you see, the private sector just needs more government intervention, and things will be all right. Published March 18, 2010
EDITORIAL: Obama’s medical horror stories
President Obama believes in government by anecdote. In a nation of 300 million souls, some people will always have some problems. There are horror stories involving medical care in every country, particularly in Canada, Britain and other nations with socialized medical systems. The question isn't whether some bad things happen; the question about a given system should center on the rate at which bad things occur. By that measure, the American medical system does extremely well. Published March 17, 2010
EDITORIAL: Mrs. Clinton’s hissy fit
It says a lot when Vice President Joe Biden comes across as the Obama administration's most skilled statesman. Last week during a visit to Israel, Mr. Biden was caught off-guard by an announcement that work would progress on 1,600 apartment units in Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood, a Jewish enclave in the northern part of the city claimed by Palestinians. This faux pas could have ended civilly. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized for the bad timing of the announcement, and Mr. Biden reiterated the strength of the relationship between the two countries. Life should have gone on. Published March 17, 2010

The president's director of the Office of Personnel Management, John Berry, has no problem with expanding the size and scope of government during the most severe economic recession in a generation. Published March 17, 2010
EDITORIAL: Health care bill can be beat
House passage of the Democrats' health care bill is not a foregone conclusion despite their 75-seat majority in the chamber. While party leaders such as Speaker Nancy Pelosi and White House spinmeister David Axelrod bravely express confidence, Rep. James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, the House majority whip, conceded on NBC's "Meet the Press" that Democrats don't have enough votes yet. Published March 16, 2010
