EDITORIAL: Yelling racism without checking the facts

Do as I say, not as I read. That's the message being sent by liberals screaming bloody murder about the new Arizona law on illegal immigration. They doth protest too much. When pressed, most admit they haven't even read what they are criticizing so violently. Published May 21, 2010

EDITORIAL: Richard Blumenthal’s rolling blunder

Connecticut's Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is taking heavy fire for a series of statements he made over several years in which he either explicitly or implicitly claimed to be a Vietnam veteran, when in fact he is not. His defense is that he misspoke - using the word "in" instead of "during" the war, according to a spokesman. This implies that he repeatedly made an innocent and unconscious mistake. But anyone watching the video of him in 2008, touching his heart when he earnestly says "we have learned something very important since the days that I served in Vietnam," cannot conclude he didn't know exactly what he was saying. The scandal doesn't depend on what the meaning of the word "in" is. Published May 21, 2010

EDITORIAL: The Rand Paul uprising

Primary voters in Kentucky delivered an unmistakable message to the Republican establishment on Tuesday: They want principled conservatives, not accommodating career politicians, to represent them in Washington. It looks increasingly likely that their wish will be granted now that Rand Paul has secured the Grand Old Party's nomination by a crushing 23-point margin over his nearest opponent. EDITORIAL: Three-way stalemate in Afghanistan

According to U.S. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the good news from Afghanistan is that the Taliban are not winning. The bad news is that the coalition isn't either. Published May 20, 2010

EDITORIAL: No Justice for Panther prosecutor

Something is wrong with a Justice Department that treats its own attorneys worse than it treats civil-rights violators those attorneys would prosecute. On Friday, after evasive testimony by Justice official Thomas E. Perez to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, department attorney J. Christian Adams resigned in obvious disgust at the deep-sixing of a voter intimidation case against members of the New Black Panther Party. Published May 20, 2010
