LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Uncover Hillary Clinton email truth
Hillary Clinton does not want her private emails made public, but as an American citizen I don't want public emails kept private. Mrs. Clinton made a poor decision, and for that the American public should not be left in the dark. Published March 16, 2015
EDITORIAL: Democrats seek out global warming research funders
Politics and science can be a lethal combination. When scientists armed with their version of new-age religion draw a policy line that all must toe, objectivity is banished. Climate-change Torquemadas in the U.S. Senate are designing an inquisition to punish organizations that question the government-approved global warming creed. Couched as a means to "request information," the senators' queries carry the malevolent tone of a letter from the IRS, seeking further information about a tax return. Fortunately, it's not yet illegal to tell the senators where to go. (Using this strategy with the IRS is not advised.) Published March 16, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Did Hillary Clinton suffer stroke?
While some pundits call Hillary Clinton arrogant and narcissistic for having the temerity while secretary of state to set up a private email account, delete 30,000 "personal" emails and then ask that everyone just "trust" her, I say her actions are a slap in the face of all Americans. With Mrs. Clinton's decadeslong track record of scandal making her one of the least trustworthy persons in the world, how insulting is her request for our faith? Published March 15, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Shame on Republican turncoats
Republicans gave in on the CRomnibus bill, they helped the Federal Communications Commission seize control of the Internet, and now they have assisted President Obama with his illegal-immigrant amnesty bill by funding the Department of Homeland Security. By the way, this defunding would have resulted in only a partial shutdown of Homeland Security, so pushing the measure through to save us all from another shutdown was a lame excuse. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Students should replay loans
The theme for the first Bill Clinton presidential campaign in 1992 was Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow)." It is a song that would be anathema to the Obama administration, whose fiscal policy is one which espouses living for the present without a thought about tomorrow. Published March 15, 2015
EDITORIAL: Free speech assault at George Washington University
Universities are citadels of free thought, places where intellectual inquiry flourishes in an atmosphere of tolerance. Well, that's what they're supposed to be. But many administrators, professors, and, with increasing frequency, students themselves have turned many universities into institutions of indoctrination: Free thinking for me, but not for you. Published March 15, 2015
EDITORIAL: Iran letter is not treason
Sometimes public opinion must submit to a history lesson. The famous letter to Iran, signed by 47 senators, urging the mullahs in Tehran to beware of making a deal with President Obama to restrain their pursuit of the Islamic bomb, has got some Democrats in a proper tizzy over the Logan Act. These Democrats don't appear to know any more about the Logan Act than the rest of the anvil chorus, but they want the senators prosecuted for treason. They have collected 165,000 names on a petition to Mr. Obama urging him to prosecute someone. Published March 15, 2015
EDITORIAL: Secret Service must clean up
The days of the Secret Service agent as superhero are long gone. Instead of men like Clint Hill flying into the back seat of the Kennedy motorcade to protect the first lady after the assassination in Dallas, or of the stoic agents of a later time who surrounded Ronald Reagan with their bodies and got him to safety after John Hinckley's failed assassination attempt, the men of today's security detail appear to be rude, raucous, unfocused college frat boys. Published March 12, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: No more Clinton presidencies
The very last thing America needs is President Hillary Rodham Clinton. Her entire tenure as secretary of state was a disaster that has left the world in ruins. And who can forget her years as first lady (millennials fortunately missed it), during which she declared herself "Queen Hillary" and ordered Secret Service to keep out of her sight as she walked the halls of the White House? Published March 12, 2015
EDITORIAL: ISIS destroys ancient relics
Trashing antiquities and traces of early civilization is so easy a caveman can do it. Steeped in ruinous belief, the cavemen of the Islamic State are adding to their criminal rampage across the Middle East, smashing and looting the priceless artifacts made by their ancestors in a more constructive era. Published March 12, 2015
EDITORIAL: Chicago’s red-light camera rip-off
Rahm Emanuel is in big trouble in Chicago, having abused the residents in ways that should be a warning to politicians everywhere. The mayor, a former adviser to both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, is not everyone's cup of breakfast tea. Everyone agrees that he's arrogant, high-handed and quick to scorn anyone with whom he disagrees. He couldn't get the 50 percent of the vote in the first primary and now the mayor is in a death struggle with a man who was written off early as a candidate with no chance. The machine, built by Richard Daley and nurtured by his son, was once invincible, and Mr. Emanuel has continued to wring money from those doing business with the city. Published March 11, 2015
EDITORIAL: Black Hawk down reminder of warrior sacrifice
While the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was inquiring Wednesday into President Obama's request for authorization to use military force against the Islamic State, or ISIS, a more immediate drama about a military force was playing out over the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of northwest Florida. Published March 11, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Obamacare unsalvageable
The March 4 article "Supreme Court tries to make sense of poorly drafted Obamacare language" (Web) reflects the fundamental problem with the entire Obamacare process, not just the issue currently before the Supreme Court. Poor language? No, Obamacare is poorly understood, specified and designed. Published March 11, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Republicans, keep promise to voters
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, continues to capitulate to President Obama and Sen. Harry Reid because he doesn't want to chance Republicans being held responsible for any government shutdown. He has done this for the budget and declared he will do it again for raising the debt ceiling. Mr. McConnell neglects to recall, apparently, the November 2014 election results that put Republicans in charge of the House and the Senate. Published March 11, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Republicans crossing the aisle — and their fingers
The 2014 midterm election is now historic not for the margin of victory, but for the magnitude of GOP betrayal. The newly elected and empowered GOP-controlled House and Senate hold nearly as much contempt for the Constitution as they seem to hold for their voters, embracing ignominy more quickly than their broken campaign promises. Published March 11, 2015
EDITORIAL: Hillary Clinton comes not so clean on email scandal
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." That bit of wisdom is often attributed to Shakespeare, but it's actually from Sir Walter Scott, and he must have been talking about Bill and Hillary Clinton. Published March 10, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Read the real ‘Mein Kampf’
It may well be true that Hitler's "Mein Kampf" "needs to be read by everyone. Not an abbreviated historical account but the actual book" ("To know offensive ideology is to read it," Web, March 3). But it should be noted that the 287-page English translation, originally published in 1933, was a severely edited version of the 781-page German-language original, and omitted much of the most offensive material. The editing was required by the German government, which controlled the publishing rights. Published March 10, 2015
EDITORIAL: The suspicious Robert Menendez indictment
The Justice Department surprised nobody with the announcement that it will seek an indictment of Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, a Democrat. A criminal investigation of the senator has been going on for many months. A jury may ultimately sort it out, and that's the way it should be. But Ted Cruz, his colleague in the U.S. Senate, put in words what a lot of people in Washington have been thinking: Does this indictment have more to do with politics than corruption or law? Published March 10, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: In California, increased water rates for conserving
It is somewhat understandable when water districts decide to increase water rates in order to provide safe, clean and efficient water service to customers. When some water districts in California consider raising water rates due to drought conditions, that might be understandable — except for the reason given. Published March 10, 2015
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Not all gay marriage polls created equal
On April 28 the Supreme Court will determine if the U.S. Constitution allows states to ban same-sex marriage. I have read two opposing articles on the subject published on the same date, March 6, 2015. Published March 10, 2015
