LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Feinstein must leave the Senate

It is time for Sen. Dianne Feinstein to go ("Feinstein says she'd back new Kavanaugh probe if Democrats take Senate," Web, Oct. 17). Her pathetic display of behavior prior to and during the Kavanaugh hearings was indicative of her poor judgment and inherent bias against Brett Kavanaugh. She, along with a number of her Democratic cohorts, is a total embarrassment to public service. The cards she played with Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford were emblematic of manipulative and strategic maneuvers that ultimately tarnished the validity of genuine victims and the bona fide meaning and relevancy of the #MeToo movement. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Ellison a hypocrite

It seems that when the shoe is on the other foot, Rep. Keith Ellison, Minnesota Democrat, becomes the victim. But, when someone else is accused, especially a Republican or a Christian, he will lead the charge that an accusation is proof enough — even though it is difficult to fathom that someone as seemingly calm, level-headed and naturally likable as Mr. Ellison would ever be abused. However, what goes around comes around, and now he is in the proverbial barrel. Enjoy the ride. Published October 21, 2018

Honduras migrants stand on the bridge that stretches over the Suchiate River, connecting Guatemala and Mexico, as they wait to be attended by Mexican migration authorities in Tecun Uman, Guatemala, Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018. Despite Mexican efforts to stop them at the border, about 5,000 Central American migrants resumed their advance toward the U.S. border early Sunday in southern Mexico. (AP Photo/Oliver de Ros)

EDITORIAL: Coming border chaos could turn the blue wave pink

In love as in politics, timing is everything. Hardball politics is hastening a caravan of immigrants rumbling north toward the United States, on course to arrive sometime around Election Day, Nov. 6. The sight of thousands of illegals from Central America crashing the border could haunt voters as they step into the voting booth. Rather than propel the media-predicted flood of Democratic Party victories, it could have the opposite effect, reinforcing the growing feeling among Americans that they're on the verge of losing their nation. Will Americans decide who crosses the border, or enable prospective immigrants to do it for them. Published October 21, 2018

U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-Texas, left, and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, right, take part in a debate for the Texas U.S. Senate, Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, in San Antonio. (Tom Reel/San Antonio Express-News via AP, Pool)

EDITORIAL: Democratic hopes of knocking out Ted Cruz look to be fading

The Democrats just can't quit counting on Texas. Election after election, they've surveyed the Giant and its growing Hispanic population and imagined electoral manna. America's second most populous state remains stubbornly, implacably Republican. Published October 18, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Athletes stuck on branding

I have new respect for Mary Bono, who this week resigned from her 4-day-old post as head of USA Gymnastics following athletes' criticism of an anti-Nike tweet of hers ("Another gymnastics official faces charge in Nassar fallout," Web, Oct. 18). Published October 18, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: ‘Asylum seekers’ must be monitored

An economic dagger is being aimed at America's heart, much like the disabling economic thrusts made into the heart of Europe with the influx of thousands of refugees from the Middle East. The current march of "asylum seekers" is bogus simply by the fact that the Honduran core of this organized trek achieved their goal of asylum the minute they set foot in the first country they were allowed to enter. Rapper Kanye West smiles as he listens to a question from a reporter during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House with President Donald Trump, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, in Washington. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)

EDITORIAL: Kanye West’s remarks in the Oval Office infuriates the press

Only in Donald Trump's America could the same pundits and journalists who scream and shout at the president on a daily basis at the White House fashion themselves arbiters of decorum without realizing their own hypocrisy. After rapper Kanye West's off the cuff rant in the Oval Office, they were up in arms. How dare he touch the timbers of the USS Resolute in the president's desk? How dare he drop the f-bomb in this sacred space? They scream and shout at the president while he walks with his wife under an umbrella in the rain. Yet when he leaves the first lady to talk to them, he is ridiculed for leaving her in the rain to talk to them instead of ignoring their persistent wails. Published October 17, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Punished for following the law?

I'm just the average Joe working hard to make a life for myself, paying my taxes and doing my part to be a productive citizen. I'm conservative but I don't believe in a party affiliation. I'm an American. Published October 17, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Jobs, not mobs

Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder tell Democrats to "reject civility" ("Michelle Obama rejects Eric Holder's, Hillary Clinton's rhetoric: 'Fear is not a proper motivator,'" Web, Oct. 11). Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters said "to get in the faces of administration officials." Democratic activists are intimidating the public with no repercussions. Democratic presidential hopefuls are encouraging resistance. Really? Resistance to what? The economy, jobs and optimism are at record highs. Unemployment is at record lows. Tax cuts and trade deals are bringing manufacturing jobs back. Hostages have been released without any preconditions. Our fallen heroes from the Korean War are finally being returned. As a veteran, I am so thankful. The Trump administration has made and kept its promises. Published October 17, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Warren a disgrace

As it turns out, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is everything President Trump says she is and more ("Trump won't pay $1 million bet on Elizabeth Warren's DNA test," Web, Oct. 15). The facts dictate that Mrs. Warren is no more Native American than I or 325.7 million other Americans. Published October 16, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Different rules for Bill Clinton

In her rationalization of his behavior, Hillary Clinton would still have us believe that President Bill Clinton should "absolutely not" have stepped down over the White House affair ("Hillary Clinton: #MeToo doesn't apply to Bill, Lewinsky was 'adult,'" Web, Oct 14). Published October 16, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Portland mayor violating oath

The action or lack thereof of the mayor of the "City of Roses" with respect to the riotous behavior of Antifa — a fascist group if there ever were one — reminds one of that of former Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who in 2015 allowed rioters their space to destroy property and endanger the citizenry ("Portland mayor stands by decision to allow antifa to block traffic, hassle motorists," Web, Oct. 14). Published October 15, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Christine Ford is a fibber

Justice Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford blatantly lied in answers to routine questions from the prosecutor, and these lies cast serious doubt about her truthfulness on any of the issues at hand ("'Speaking truth to power': Christine Blasey Ford nominated for UNC Distinguished Alumna Award," Web, Oct. 9). Published October 15, 2018

Pastor Andrew Brunson, center, and U.S. Charge d'Affaires Jeffrey Hovenier, left, arrive at Adnan Menderes airport for a flight to Germany after his release following his trial in Izmir, Turkey, Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, A Turkish court on Friday convicted an American pastor of terror charges but released him from house arrest and allowed him to leave Turkey, in a move that is likely to ease tensions between Turkey and the United. (AP Photo/Emre Tazegul)

EDITORIAL: A missionary’s return belies the widespread persecution of Christians

Andrew Brunson, the American Christian missionary imprisoned for two years in a Turkish prison, came home through the good offices of President Trump to an air of celebration shared by all Americans. But it hardly hides the reality that persecution of Christians has never been more widespread, or more severe. Published October 15, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: No end in sight

Two recent op-eds "'Where do we go from here?'" and "Replacing facts with hysteria" (Web, Oct. 9) illustrate the sharp division within American society regarding the way the two major political parties are viewed. Published October 14, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stop needless health spending

President Trump is right to emphasize the importance of protecting patients with pre-existing conditions in any health care reform effort ("Trump on campaign trail emphasizes protections for pre-existing conditions," Web, Oct.3). Millions of Americans have pre-existing conditions. Published October 14, 2018

Jair Bolsonaro, the maverick, politically incorrect, far-right populist presidential candidate, was leading his opponent by 18 percentage points a week before Brazil's election runoff. (Associated Press/File)

EDITORIAL: Opportunity for Brazil

Here's a remarkable fact: More people have been murdered in Brazil since the turn of the century than have been killed in the Syrian Civil War. That baleful reality goes a long way toward explaining the remarkable political events over the past month in the largest nation in South America over the past month. Published October 11, 2018

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Voters like the bounty Trump brought

I liken President Trump to a huge apple tree that grew big, beautiful, delicious apples (the economy and respect for our country). One day a farmer (the Trump administration) came to the tree to pick a basket of apples to make a pie (a better America). He saw a couple of discolored apples on the ground, and not thinking threw them in with the fresh apples he had picked from the tree. A few days later, when the farmer went to make a pie, he saw that the discolored apples (the Democrats) were rotten and had caused some apples that had been under them (gullible people) to rot.
