EDITORIAL: China tests the evolution of repression
Birthdays are occasions to celebrate, and also reflect. As the People's Republic of China turns 70, the nations of the world join China in awe-filled recognition of its rapid rise from an agrarian to a cutting-edge culture. Amid the fanfare, the cost of its historic reliance on repression must not be forgotten. Published September 30, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trump hysteria a coup attempt
President Trump gave two very important speeches at the United Nations, one on religious persecution around the world and the other, addressing the struggle to keep America independent and not an asset of a single, global government. The tragedy, for anyone paying attention, is that the current Congress remains laser-focused not on such issues, but on impeaching President Trump by whatever means possible. In the meantime, they are failing to perform their number-one elected duty: to represent the needs, issues and concerns of the people in their home districts. Published September 30, 2019
EDITORIAL: Bernie Sanders has a terrible plan for federal spending on housing
Presidential wannabe Bernie Sanders is again dunking his spending bucket deeply in what he firmly believes is a bottomless federal well. Published September 29, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Biden, CIA broke multiple laws
Let's recap the Ukraine situation, shall we? Former Vice President Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion of U.S. aid (paid by taxpayers) from Ukraine in order to get a prosecutor off his son's back. (If you can't see the crime there, I can't help you.) President Trump, who has the broad foreign policy powers enumerated in the U.S. Constitution, mentioned this malfeasance in a polite leaked conversation with Ukraine's new president. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: U.S. not world’s welfare state
Popular news networks advertise themselves as being wholesome and accurate supporters of our best interests. However, whether on local or national networks or in newspapers, if "undocumented migrants" or "immigrants" are not described as the criminal trespassers they are, viewers are not getting the truth from these networks. LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Nonsense shows need for Trump
If the socialist Democrats really want a civil war by attacking honest gun owners and trying to impeach a president who hasn't been tainted by globalist blackmailers, they are going to have to come up with a better excuse than a whistleblower's lie. After 'Russiagate,' the extortionist Stormy Daniels and now the song of this supposed whistleblower, I've had enough. Trump 2020. Published September 26, 2019
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Desperate ‘whistleblower’ claims
The message that the viewing audience should take away from Rep. Adam Schiff and his House Intelligence Committee cronies is just how desperate the Democrats have become because of President Trump's success as our commander-in-chief ("Intelligence Chairman Schiff: Whistleblower looking to testify," Web, Sept. 24). They are so desparate, in fact, that they have come before the nation with hatred in their hearts for our country. Published September 26, 2019
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Impeach Pelosi and cohorts
It has become necessary to impeach House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a long list of others on the grounds of the obvious mental and moral incompetence that has led to dereliction of duty and deliberate, fanatical interference with the smooth functioning of our government. Published September 26, 2019
EDITORIAL: America’s warfighters deserve the best
America is rightly proud of its warfighters. They are the best at what they do, in peacetime and in battle. They keep us secure and are ready to answer the call any time the nation's interests are imperiled. And because they are, it is incumbent on both the taxpayers and policymakers to do our utmost to ensure they have the finest food, training and equipment possible. Published September 26, 2019
EDITORIAL: The perilous politics of impeachment
Impeachment is a fool's errand. But the beat goes on — that is, the one determined to beat down Donald Trump. Published September 25, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trudeau deserves forgiveness
In the age of the Internet, there is a new public figure at the center of a scandal every week ("Justin Trudeau's support holds amid 'brownface' scandal: 'I think he is drawing some sympathy,'" Web, Sept. 22). As a society, it is imperative that we learn to forgive mistakes made decades ago. Published September 25, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: ‘Low-fat’ is low science
The winner of the 1926 Tour de France described his diet for the race as consisting of raw eggs, raw meat and a stick of butter. My, how things have changed ("A spoonful less sugar, tad more fat: US diets still lacking," Web, Sept. 24). Now the cyclists cannot mount their bikes without a sugary gel, bottles of Gatorade and whatever else the sports-food/-drink industry is pushing, which is definitely not raw meat. EDITORIAL: Why D.C. statehood is still a bad idea
No matter how ill-advised or how unmoored from the U.S. Constitution their policies and programs are, liberals refuse to take "no" for an answer. Their strategy is to wear down and outlast opposition to their bad public-policy prescriptions. Two prime examples: Liberals unsuccessfully pushed for decades, beginning with a 1972 federal lawsuit, for the legalization of same-sex marriage, until five unelected U.S. Supreme Court justices gave it to them by fiat in June 2015. Then there's the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, which was also first proposed in 1972. Radical feminists to this day are seeking to resurrect the ERA from the constitutional crypt, even though its ratification deadline came and went in 1979. (In a textbook example of changing the rules in the middle of the game — liberals then demanded and won a three-year extension of the deadline till 1982, but it still failed to garner ratification by the requisite 38 states.) LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Remember left’s corruption
The collaboration of the mainstream media and "deep state" unelected bureaucrats with corrupt, anti-Trump politicians over these past three years has now gained momentum, with so-called moderate Democratic representatives joining the chorus of Rep. Jerry Nadler in seeking the impeachment of President Trump. Published September 24, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Urge Kim to lose nukes
As a world leader, President Trump should use his impressive role to motivate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to address the enduring issue of North Korea's nuclear program ("South Korea presses Trump for softer U.S. approach to North Korea nuke talks," Web, Sept. 23). Other world leaders ought to corroborate the Trump narrative by putting away any national interests which pose a threat to world peace. Published September 24, 2019
EDITORIAL: The U.N. places climate above all
Saving the world is the holy grail of each generation. Superheroes who used to come to the rescue in comic books now do it digitally. In this era of global consciousness, regular folks can roll up their sleeves and join the ranks of the adored. Now it's called saving the planet, and it doesn't require a cape and tights. The only prerequisite is a willingness to turn thumbs up for environmental activism, and the United Nations is all thumbs with its Climate Action Summit, a warm-up act for the U.N. General Assembly opening on Tuesday in New York. Published September 23, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left abandoned self-sufficiency
I'm a lifelong independent voter, age 74. For pretty much all of my life, the adage I've adopted has been, "Teach a man to fish, and he will survive on his own." Today, when I listen to the Democrats, teaching citizens to fend for themselves is not part or their discussion. I don't see that as a long-term plan for success or survival. If this blatant omission continues to be part of the Democrats' game plan, they will lose my vote. Published September 23, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Bidens’ was real foreign meddling
President Trump is right to seek an investigatation of Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, regarding their potentially illegal involvement in Ukraine's putsch-created/fascist-leaning government ("Biden son's questionable business deals in Ukraine become campaign liability," Web, Sept. 22). In fact, we need a far wider investigation into people in the State Department who reportedly derailed the democratic process in Ukraine by encouraging murdering mobs, which resulted in the overthrow of Ukraine's democratically elected leader, Victor Yanukovich, and started the war. EDITORIAL: Big Tech finds a comfortable place to hide from responsibility
It's impossible to surf the Web without encountering ads promoting the sale of stimulants, weight loss pills, remedies for dysfunction, and other pseudo-pharmaceuticals. They're ubiquitous and, for the folks who sell these modern-day patent medicines, highly lucrative. Published September 22, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Climate bogeyman
The Washington Times and many media outlets have printed stories about Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and other children frightened of climate change ("Prophet or puppet? Teen climate activist Greta Thunberg's arrival ignites exploitation debate," Web, Aug. 29). I've spent thousands of hours studying the issue and have come up with questions for Greta et al. I can't answer these questions and neither, it seems, can Greta and her friends. Published September 22, 2019
