LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Anything to cover up corruption
The drip, drip, drip of insults hurled at President Trump by the political left and some on the right leaves one to wonder, Why? The investigations of Attorney General William Barr, U.S. Attorney John Durham as well as the Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz are the key to understanding what is really going on here. EDITORIAL: Federal budget deficit is now the highest in seven years
A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic, Joseph Stalin is reputed to have observed. (And as one of the most prolific murderers of the 20th century, Old Joe should have known of what he spoke.) Likewise, losing 20 or even 100 bucks is deeply annoying. But losing $1 trillion? Why, that's mere statistic — indeed, to us mere mortals, $1 trillion is an unfathomable amount. Published October 8, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Save the ‘Skins
I am an 81-year-old former Redskins fan. I say "former" because I no longer expect to see the organization field a well-coached team of professional players, and therefore I don't much care anymore when they lose. Saving this franchise will require more than just replacing the coach. Published October 8, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: ‘Impeachers’ still need draining
Over the past week, I have been mulling over the lies being sprinkled into the unvarnished truth of the actions of the Trump administration. Those lies are the promises the adamant Democrats and some ambivalent Republicans have made to us voters. They will not get our votes again. Published October 8, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Flashes of the Dreyfus Affair
The news media is generally remarkably harsh on Republicans, and President Trump in particular. However, what the Democrats did to both Supreme Court justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh — with media support — was outrageous. It reminds me of what a kangaroo court did to Captain Alfred Dreyfus in France in the 1890s. That split apart French society in a serious way, and it seems to me that both the news media and the Democrats are splitting apart America now. I hope these parties reconsider their actions, conform to honest principles and begin acting in a more responsible way. Published October 7, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: The gun law that would work
Every day, hundreds of thousands of responsible, legally armed citizens move among us, all across America — on our streets, in our stores and elsewhere. We don't recognize them or even think of them because remarkably, in spite of their numbers, we never hear of one of them causing trouble with a gun, though they often put a stop to robberies and killings, usually without firing a shot. EDITORIAL: Rocking the U.S. economy
Love makes the world go 'round, it is said, but it's money that greases its spin. When news arrives of a weakening economy, some looking out through the wrong end of binoculars can mistake a fly in the ointment for a wallet-ravaging behemoth. With proper perspective, there can be little doubt the U.S. economy under President Trump is on full throttle, and the roar means rising prosperity for American families. Published October 7, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: GOP should call Pelosi’s bluff
Stephen Dinan carefully navigates through the legalities of whether the full House of Representatives must vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry ("Pelosi faces serious legal challenges to 'casual' impeachment inquiry," Web, Oct. 3). What is most salient here, however, is the reason for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's refusal to hold such a vote It is a blatant effort to shield vulnerable Democrats from having to go on the record with their positions. EDITORIAL: Ending taxpayer subsidies for demonstrators in Washington
In its most common usage, the expression "Freedom isn't free" is intended to convey gratitude for the service of members of the military and to recognize that the freedoms we all enjoy are possible only because of the risks taken, and sacrifices made, by veterans and current members of the armed forces. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Many abortuaries dirty, unsafe
"Judge issues mixed ruling in abortion law challenge" (Web, Sept. 30) is biased, inaccurate and once again shows that abortionists think they should be allowed to operate without any legal constraints. Published October 6, 2019
EDITORIAL: Democrats vie frantically with the collusion facts
If there are two sides to every story, they both deserve to be heard. In the epic tale of foreign influence in the 2016 presidential election, the narrative about Russia helping Donald Trump was exhaustively probed and ultimately debunked. As Americans gape at Democrats' current efforts to impugn and impeach President Trump, they should be mindful that the gathering political storm represents the party's desperate efforts to suppress the other side of the story — that it was Hillary Clinton's campaign, together with Obama administration officials, who conspired with foreign governments to steal the election. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: AOC, Sanders not socialists
With all due respect to my fellow Americans, most of us simply don't seem to know that a "liberal/progressive" is not the same thing as a "socialist." This includes the Democratic Party's presidential candidates and the members of "The Squad." Published October 3, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trump right on Schiff
The Democrats are doing little or nothing for Americans, instead devoting all their efforts toward the impeachment of President Trump. As the 2020 election approaches, it seems a cold war has been started by Democrats, with fake accusations and the latest "whistleblower" report. Published October 3, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Support CITGO investors
Recent coverage of the Trump administration's sanctions of the socialist Maduro regime omits one important element. Earlier this summer, the Trump administration issued sanctions against Venezuela's state-owned oil company, effectively blocking North American investors from claiming their rightful property in CITGO, its U.S. division. Juan Guaido's interim government of Venezuela supported the move. They want to eliminate investors' property rights in CITGO. Published October 2, 2019
EDITORIAL: Joe and Hunter Bidens’ activities in Ukraine
Joe Biden just couldn't quit Ukraine. When he served as vice president, Mr. Biden travelled more than once to Ukraine to strongarm the Slavic country into ousting its top prosecutor, one Victor Shokin. On his December 2015 visit to Kyiv and a subsequent March 2016 journey to the country, Mr. Biden brought with him what is commonly referred to as "leverage." The Obama administration threatened to withhold aid from the country, unless they canned Mr. Shoki. A lot of aid, too: Some $1 billion in loan guarantees. That was a serious threat to war-torn Ukraine, which can at times barely keep its own lights on. Published October 2, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Guyger conviction right
It doesn't matter what former Dallas cop Amber Guyger thought when she shot neighbor Botham Jean in 2018 ("Dallas jury convicts ex-cop in neighbor's death," Web, Oct. 1). Ignorance is no defense under the law. All that really mattered in deliberating this case was the fact that the apartment Guyger mistakenly walked into was not hers to defend. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Don’t mess with Trump
As an American taxpayer, I'm well beyond fed up with the Democrats' constant antics to foist one fake scandal after another on the American people — particularly when I believe that they are the ones who have committed all the corruption and crimes. Published October 1, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Oust Schiff, other money wasters
There has been a serious injustice perpetrated against President Trump by the vicious, mean-spirited Democrats. In my 70 years, I have never seen a president slandered and defamed in this way. with one Democrat lying about it and 10 others swearing to it. The biggest offenders are Jerry Nadler, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi. Published October 1, 2019
EDITORIAL: Democrats hold a pointless show vote on border wall funding
Sen. Charles Schumer forced a vote in the Senate last week that he knew would fail before the roll was ever called. It did, and rightly so. So much for the self-styled "world's greatest deliberatively body." Published October 1, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Voters notice left’s lies
The unrelenting quest by the Democrats to oust our duly elected president for their own self-serving interests (and their willingness to stretch it to any length possible) is a genuine disgrace ("Republican wants Adam Schiff censured for making up Trump quotes," Web, Sept. 25). Rep. Schiff, chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, could serve as the poster child for this disgrace, with his pathetic performance of formally uttering lies about President Trump and Ukraine and entering them into the congressional record as a means to a subversive end.
