The New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE; also known as New York City Public Schools) is the department of the government of New York City that manages the city's public school system. The department controls the City School District of the City of New York, the largest public school district in the United States (and among the largest in the world), with approximately 1.1 million students taught in more than 1,800 separate schools.
