OPINION:
For decades, I have watched the tides of our nation’s politics from the vantage point of the speakership and as a student of American history.
In this moment of profound consequence for the American experiment, we do not need more noise; we need results. That is why I am proud to offer my full support for Sen. John Cornyn’s reelection to the U.S. Senate.
John Cornyn is one of the most effective conservative legislators of the modern era. In Washington, there are two kinds of people: those who want to be something, and those who want to do something. John has always been in the latter camp.
His record is not one of mere rhetoric but of tangible victories that have made Texas and the United States stronger.
When we talk about conservative credentials, we must first look at the judiciary. There is perhaps no greater legacy a senator can leave than the restoration of a constitutionally sound federal bench. John Cornyn was a foundational architect of the strategy that secured a conservative majority on the Supreme Court and filled appellate courts with originalist judges.
As a former member of the Texas Supreme Court and attorney general of Texas, John brought a jurist’s precision to the Senate Judiciary Committee, ensuring that radicals wishing to rewrite our founding documents were met with a formidable defense of the Constitution.
Beyond the bench, John has been a relentless advocate for the economic engine of the South. He understands that the “Texas Model” — low taxes, reasonable regulation and pro-growth energy policy — is the blueprint for national prosperity.
Whether it was the historic tax cuts of 2017, the passage of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act last year or his work to ensure that domestic energy producers can compete globally, John has been a steady hand. He doesn’t just vote the right way; he builds the coalitions necessary to move the needle.
As we look toward the 2026 midterms, the stakes could not be higher. I know the weight of midterm elections. In 1994, I rose to the office of speaker in a transformational wave election. Today, we are at a crossroads where the fundamental direction of our country is being decided.
The Senate is the thin line of defense against an aggressive left-wing agenda that seeks to expand federal reach into every corner of our lives. To hold that line, we must nominate candidates who can win primary battles while dominating in the general election.
John Cornyn is a proven winner. He has a unique ability to communicate conservative principles to a broad, diverse electorate and has consistently demonstrated the political infrastructure to win decisively across all of Texas’ 254 counties.
In a general election, you need a candidate who can articulate a vision for the future that resonates with suburban parents, rural farmers and urban entrepreneurs alike.
Furthermore, the modern reality of the U.S. Senate rewards institutional knowledge. John’s seniority and deep understanding of Senate procedure are assets for Texas that cannot be easily replaced.
He is positioned to chair the powerful Senate Finance Committee in January, provided Republicans hold the majority. When the chips are down and critical legislation is being negotiated, you want John Cornyn at the table. He knows how to protect Texas interests, navigate the chamber’s complex rules and, most important, how to win.
This midterm cycle is about the mandate to govern. Republicans must continue enacting President Trump’s legislative agenda: securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, rebuilding our manufacturing base and restoring American energy independence.
John Cornyn is essential to that mission. He is a workhorse, a scholar of the law and a principled conservative who has never wavered in his commitment to the people of Texas.
Now is the time for stability and proven leadership. I urge my fellow conservatives to look at the scoreboard and the record of accomplishment. Join me in supporting John Cornyn. He has been a champion for our values for years, and he is the leader we need to secure victory in the pivotal years ahead.
