LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Squad’s selective reading skills
The country has been lied to yet again by the Trump-hating Democrats regarding what the president tweeted about the four congresswomen, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts (now known as "The Squad," or better yet "The Hit Squad Against Democracy"). Published July 17, 2019
EDITORIAL: Brighter future depends on more responsible management of national debt
The United States can't run on a shoestring, but even a king's ransom wouldn't suffice when there is little interest in fixing the hole in the nation's money pocket. Published July 17, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: GOP, stop undermining Trump
In 2016, President Trump helped Republicans get House and Senate majorities. In 2018, he helped them keep the Senate majority. Yet the splinter groups of Republicans did not keep their promises to repeal and replace Obamacare. They have not fully supported Mr. Trump's appropriate withdrawals from the flawed Paris climate agreement and the Iran nuclear deal, neither of which was passed by the Senate. Published July 17, 2019
EDITORIAL: Trump, Squad feud demonstrates how juvenile politics has become
Politics is sometimes a lot like high school, with its surfeit of backbiting, goofy, mean occasionally clever nicknames, and scrambling for popularity, but the latest cannonading of tweets and trivia between President Trump and "the Squad" is taking metaphor a bridge too far. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's feud with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her ladies, and now with the president, is a serious breach of how the government is supposed to work. The exchange demonstrates just how juvenile things have become on Capitol Hill. Published July 16, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Who are real white supremacists?
"Abortion activists connect pro-life efforts, white supremacists to fuel anger at Netroots convention" (Web, July 14) is the stupidest, most ridiculous, radical liberal canard yet! As mentioned in the article, abortion rates are many times higher for black women (and other minority women) than they are for whites. Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, an avowed eugenicist who frequently spoke at KKK rallies, believed that African-Americans were "human weeds" who needed to be culled from the gene pool of civilized human beings. Planned Parenthood clinics are concentrated in minority districts. So who are the real white supremacists? Published July 16, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trump at a crossroads
One must feel for former special counsel Robert Mueller. He appointed all partisans (who had conflicts of interest) to take over. And to think — he was just a step away from running the FBI. That is evidence of how our top national agencies can become corrupt. Published July 16, 2019
EDITORIAL: Democrats may one day regret looking further into Mueller report
Democrats dissatisfied with the contents of the Mueller report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election can't seem to resist the temptation to pry off the lid of Pandora's box. Craving the key to impeaching President Trump, they risk the danger of refusing to let bad enough alone. Their obstinacy could ultimately serve the greater good they don't intend, giving Republicans a stage for exposing mischief unleashed by the Obama administration. Published July 15, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Time for Mueller probe justice
I can't wait for Robert Mueller to sit down in front of the House Judiciary Committee and its Republican members ("Democrats fear loss of momentum with delay of Mueller testimony," Web, July 14). No matter what happens, there will be a huge story to tell. If Mr. Mueller "takes the Fifth," it will show that he is indeed hiding something or protecting someone specific, like Hillary Clinton. If Mr. Mueller decides to answer the questions posed truthfully and completely, then politically Democratic heads will roll. If he knew there was no case to pursue against President Trump early on but he did it anyway to help the leaders of the coup, he himself becomes a target for legal action. Published July 15, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Antifa must be brought down
Antifa, a loosely organized group of communists, have taken their political violence one step further. Recently, the ignorance of one of them, a singer-songwriter who couldn't put down the weed from Woodstock, led him to throw a Molotov cocktail at an ICE facility in Washington state. He was shot for his foolishness. Published July 15, 2019
EDITORIAL: Bad manners spoil a moment of triumph for the women’s World Cup team
Professional soccer has been banging on the American consciousness for decades, trying to win recognition as the equal of baseball, football and basketball in the public eye. The media elites have tut-tutted and clucked their tongues, lamenting the reality that American sports fans have not embraced professional soccer in the way of the rest of the world. Published July 14, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Biden helped make own monster
There is a type of political cannibalism going on in the Democratic Party: The "progressive" wing is starting to destroy the stalwarts of that political persuasion, people such as Joe Biden. Published July 14, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left must abide by own morality
The Democrats have entered into a new moral darkness in their driving Labor Secretary Alex Acosta out of office for the plea deal he was able to get 12 years ago against a person connected to leading Democrats, including the Clintons ("Acosta resigns as Labor secretary, cites scrutiny over Epstein case," Web, July 12). They have also placed themselves in a very difficult and dangerous situation: They must now be judged by their own moral requirements for Mr. Acosta. Published July 14, 2019
EDITORIAL: Special relationship between U.S., Britain will nevertheless prosper, endure
Diplomacy isn't always diplomatic. Kim Darroch, late the British ambassador in Washington, had several choice things to say about what he thinks of President Trump, and now he's gone. He put his remarks in a cable (more correctly called a "cablegram") to London and a busybody in the Washington embassy or the Foreign Office in London leaked them to a London newspaper, the Mail on Sunday. Published July 11, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Census question a no-brainer
What planet does Chief Justice Roberts come from ("Supreme Court halts citizenship question on 2020 census," Web, June 27)? Published July 11, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: What happened to ‘No, thank you’?
There has been a long-standing tradition of outstanding athletic teams receiving invitations to the White House. For some time now we have seen numerous big-mouthed individuals refuse their invitations. They have every right not to go, but they don't have a right to turn their feelings into a foul controversy ("Megan Rapinoe: Team will reject White House invite; we don't want message 'co-opted or corrupted,'" Web, July 10). Published July 11, 2019
EDITORIAL: Unrestricted immigration will only fray America’s heartstrings
Children may be our closest brush with heaven this side of eternity. Their innocent vulnerability reaches out to the rest of us for compassion and protection. That's why the cynical and the conniving wield them as the perfect tool to enhance political machinations. We're watching now the use of immigrant children from Central America to tug at heartstrings and break down common-sense respect for the secure borders that comprise the central pillar of national sovereignty. Compassion for the suffering of others, especially children, is a virtue. But irresponsibility posing as compassion for the plight of young illegal migrants eventually undermines the goodwill of millions of Americans. Published July 10, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Only illegals unlikely to answer
I couldn't help but laugh while reading "Nancy Pelosi: Trump citizenship question is attempt to 'make America white again'" (Web, July 8). Mrs. Pelosi may be correct that what President Trump is doing will result in "certain populations" not answering the form — but if said populations were composed of legal immigrants they most likely would answer. Published July 10, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trump’s actions speak loudest
I'm not a fan of President Trump's style, but it shows he is not a put-up job. Mr. Trump's energy is devoted to making good on his campaign promises against stiff opposition from his detractors, all of whom are looking for high compensation for their mediocre service. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump is contributing all of his salary to charity. I don't know about others, but I'd rather trust an obnoxious but highly-skilled doctor with my health than a nice but clueless one. Published July 10, 2019
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: History is indelible
In "Deleting history, forgetting the past" (Web, July 8), Richard Rahn makes the point that those who lived in a specific time in the past were products of that time period. Published July 9, 2019
EDITORIAL: Voters in Greece were angered by austerity, now face more of the same
Beware of Greeks bearing false promises. That's the lesson of the end of the Syriza government in Athens, whose four years in power ended over the last weekend in a definitive general election. Published July 9, 2019
