EDITORIAL: Climate fears are driving children to extremes

Everyone loves children. They're the best part of a better world to come. Unfortunately, kids are clueless about both the world as it is and the means to improve it. That's why they're sent to school to learn rather than teach. Published December 15, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Do we still need the left?

Judging a book by its cover can get your credibility questioned, but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. Has anyone honestly looked at the leaders of the Democratic Party? Separately, they are a bad driver's license headshot, but together they look like the cast of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." These are honest-to-goodness sociopaths. In simple terms, they know what they're doing is wrong, inappropriate and at times illegal, but they do it all anyway. Published December 15, 2019

EDITORIAL: New Jersey kosher grocery store shooting is tied to Black Hebrew Israelites, a hate group

Residents of Washington, D.C., may be grimly familiar with the so-called Black Hebrew Israelites, or at least a radical subset of them who are avowedly "Black Supremacist." They tend to hang out in the capital's Chinatown neighborhood, near where the Washington Wizards and Capitals play, and shout racist, sexist and anti-gay epithets at passersby. They're a menacing presence, intending to frighten and intimidate Washingtonians and tourists going about their business. Published December 12, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Media must do its job

Malcolm X said: "The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses." For over three years we've been told by the mainstream media that Donald Trump is a Russian asset and that he colluded with Russia to win the presidential election. Though the Mueller report found no evidence of any such collusion, the Democratic establishment in Washington is unable to understand how it lost in 2016. Surely Trump had help. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stop impeachment hogwash

"Hogwash" is the kitchen refuse given to hogs, and it has come to mean 'ludicrously false statements.' A lot of it is currently being dumped on Americans regarding the Ukraine inquiry. The lie is that politicians have obtained certainty by reading another person's mind. This is an evil baby step toward the world's worst evil. Published December 12, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Only one diversity type matters

Many organizations and committees claim to celebrate diversity. They have members of various ages, geographical areas, genders, sexual orientations and races (albeit there's not much importance placed today on the inclusion of white males). The only diverse quality that none of them ever advertises for is philosophical. Published December 11, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Online-only not senior-friendly

I recently checked the websites of several political candidates I heard were having trouble raising money and interest for their campaigns. I quickly saw the websites themselves were hurting the candidates. Why? They were asking for online-only donations. That is really stupid. Published December 11, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: ‘AOC,’ angry bull in china shop

Every time the photo-friendly Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez opens her mouth, she proves the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln, who quipped,"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than speak out and remove all doubt." Published December 10, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Murder is murder

So they are "investigating" whether the Saudi shooter in Pensacola was a terrorist ("Pensacola shooting 'looks like terrorism,' Trump national security adviser says," Web, Dec. 8). That's almost as rich as thinking that calling a crime a hate crime makes the crime that much worse. Published December 10, 2019

Early results released on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019 show that doctors were able to take immune system cells from the patients' blood and alter them genetically to help them recognize and fight cancer, with minimal and manageable side effects. EDITORIAL: Payment formulas shouldn’t favor private physicians over hospitals

Obamacare, which has been the law of the land for almost a decade, has failed to live up to most all the promises its proponents made. The health care cost curve has not been bent downward. People cannot, despite the former president's repeated statements to the contrary, keep the plans they had, whether or not they liked them. And we're still debating ways to increase access, improve quality, and create an environment in which every American, whether they want it or not, has insurance. Published December 9, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Israel’s divine protection

Since its inception, Israel has been the object of persecution, hate, war and destruction. Even today, its enemies are working to that end. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is calling for an "army of Islam" to invade Israel and destroy the nation and its people. Published December 9, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Why socialists hate freedom

Socialism's core goals fall into three broad streams: 1) Most economic activity is brought under government control; individual wealth creation and goals, innovation, freedom of choice and free-market forces are gone (think Medicare for All and the Green New Deal); 2) Income is "redistributed" (i.e., "excess" wealth is taken from the "rich" and spread around); and 3) Private property and the middle class are abolished. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Cherry-picking ‘legal scholars’

Where were the Democrats' distinguished legal scholars when President Obama betrayed Ukraine? Mr. Obama asked Vladimir Putin for "space" in the run-up to the 2012 elections, with assurance of resolving "missile defense" issues. In March 2013, Mr. Obama obligingly cancelled the final phase of the European Missile Defense System, and then sat on his hands when Russia annexed Ukraine in February and March 2014. Yet the phrases "bribery," "abuse of authority," "inviting foreign intervention," "quid pro quo," "withholding lethal military aid," "undermining national security" and "treason" never came up. EDITORIAL: Martin O’Malley goes low by ranting and raving at Ken Cuccinelli in a bar

In the era of social media — where videos gone "viral" are the currency of the realm — hyper-partisanship, and, dare we say, symptoms of Trump Derangement Syndrome everywhere, political harassment is in vogue. Trump administration officials are routinely heckled and harassed in public places, like restaurants. This obnoxious behavior is corrosive of our democratic society. Political differences here are supposed to be debated, discussed and ultimately voted on. Public harassment has no place in an open society. Published December 8, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Stop ‘corpocracy’

Recently learning how controls over capitalist systems and markets have made some European nations more competitive, accessible and free — thus further favoring consumers and workers — than North America has left me seeing how we, the latter, are increasingly under corpocratic rule ("Andrew Yang on impeachment: 'This is going to be a loser,'" Web, Dec. 5). EDITORIAL: The left set the precedent for gun-rights supporters

Some on the left are angry, if not apoplectic, that conservatives are turning the tables on them and co-opting one of their own tactics against liberal policies. But turnabout, as they say, is fair play: Self-styled "progressives," it seems, aren't the only ones who can unilaterally decide which laws they will or will not enforce and/or comply with. Published December 5, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Rude tweets not “high crimes”

Why the rush for impeachment ("Dems scrambling for impeachment vote by Christmas: 'We must move swiftly'" Web, Dec. 4) ? Is the weight of President Trump's "high crimes" about to sink the republic? Or are Democrats beginning to comprehend that the impeachment circus, directed by manifestly partisan politicians, is a self-made trap? Published December 5, 2019

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Left’s guilt transference

When our country gives foreign aid to another country, it is frequently done in an effort to affect the foreign country's policies. We have historically tried to eliminate human-rights abuses and improve living conditions and policies with such aid. Published December 5, 2019
