Mountain Goat-UT.jpg
Wasatch Mountains, Utah – Mountain Goats - Utah has an outstanding population of mountain goats. Hunts start in mid September and last through the first week of October, or until the snow flies, making it impossible to reach the high country where these goats are found. Mountain goat hunts are extremely strenuous and require steep mountain hiking. Non-residents must apply for the Wasatch Mountains Lone Peak area, where canyons are also very popular with the non-hunting population. All hunting is done on foot. Mount Timpanogos is true mountain goat country. In some areas, hunts will be at elevations from 10,000 to over 13,000 feet in very steep terrain. Hunters need to come up with a plan to recover the goat before taking a shot.
Caribou-AK.JPG
Western Alaska’s GMU19 - Caribou - Usually found in the remote tundra of western Alaska, caribou are majestic wanderers on whatever range they are found. Subsistence hunting may take place year-round, however the sport season usually begins in August and ends at the end of September. The heart of caribou range in August and September is "Game Management Unit" #19. GMU19 contains the Big River Herd and scattered herds located between the Mulchatna River in the south, to the North Fork of the Kuskokwim River in the north. Most hunters see from 20 to 500 caribou per day and it's not uncommon to see impressive herds of several thousand, no matter where you hunt. Guided and unguided hunts are available.
Mountain Lion-ID.jpg
Idaho County, Idaho – Mountain Lion - According to Game and Fish Magazine, Idaho County is your best bet in the United States for mountain lion. "Idaho County includes some of the most rugged country in the entire state. There’s Hell’s Canyon to the west, the Salmon River Mountains and portions of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness to the south, and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to the north and east. Access is difficult even during the best of times. During winter months, when snow piles deep, it can be next to impossible. The most successful hunters use snowmobiles to traverse limited roads and open areas. Its sheer remoteness, obviously great genetics, and this smorgasbord of food create the perfect setting for behemoth mountain lions."
