America has a First Amendment. The United Kingdom does not. And now the European Commission is pushing its members to adopt wider policies that stifle and censor Americans’ free speech.

They’re doing it through the business world.

As Patrick Hedger, director of policy with NetChoice says, if America’s corporate world doesn’t take care, it will be disastrous for the freedoms of Americans. What’s happening?

Basically, companies in America are being forced to silence digital speech that is deemed unsafe, offensive and harmful by European standards, as a condition of doing business in the global economy. Those that don’t face fines, and worse.

And some in America’s political offices want to see the same restrictions Europe places on speech to become commonplace — and law — in America. Astonishingly enough, that includes satire.

Just think back to the COVID days when those with views that countered the government’s preferred narrative were booted off social media. That’s where this anti-free speech road will lead once again.
