Western Governors University (WGU) is a private, nonprofit, American university with more than 33,000 students across the United States and in military bases overseas, as of May 31, 2012. Western Governors University is driven by a mission to expand access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs. WGU has flourished into a national university, serving students from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the U.S. Armed Forces stationed around the world.
