In this March 17, 2014 rancher Chuck O'Connor stands in a pasture near Philip, in western South Dakota. O'Connor lost 45 of his 600 cows and 50 of his 600 calves in the intense two-day storm last fall which first brought rain and then dumped up to 4 feet of snow.
