Ghulam Haider Hamidi, the mayor of Kandahar, Afghanistan, was assassinated Wednesday by a suicide bomber who hid explosives in his turban. His death is the third killing of a Karzai associate in a little more than two weeks. On July 12, Ahmed Wali Karzai was gunned down in his home in Kandahar by a close associate, dealing a blow to President Hamid Karzai's support system. (Associated Press)
