FILE - In this Nov. 27, 2013 file photo, Vernita Gray, left, and Patricia Ewert, hold their Illinois marriage license at their home in Chicago following their marriage by a Cook County judge. They were the first couple to be married after the gay marriage law was signed by the governor. Because Gray was terminally ill, they were issued an expedited marriage license before the state's gay marriage law took effect in June 2014. A family friend says Vernita Gray died late Tuesday, March 18, 2014, of cancer. She was 65. (AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast, File)

FILE - In this Wednesday, Feb. 14, 199, file photo, Siddique Abdullah Hasan, formerly known as Carlos Sanders, testifies before Judge Fred J. Cartolano in Cincinnati, during his trial on aggravated murder, kidnapping, and assault charges. Allowing prison inmates convicted for their role in Ohio's deadly 1993 prison riot to conduct face-to-face media interviews could give them too much “notoriety and influence” among fellow prisoners and cause problems throughout the prison system, the state argues in a court filing. The Ohio chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union sued the state in December, arguing the prison system's policy is inconsistent, especially when the backgrounds of other high-security inmates granted access to reporters is reviewed. The lawsuit was also brought on behalf of death row inmates Siddique Abdullah Hasan, George Skatzes, Keith Lamar and Jason Robb, and inmate Gregory Curry, who is serving a life sentence for the Lucasville riots.
