Washington Redskins safety died on November 27, 2007 at the age of 24 after being shot during a break-in at his Miami area home. Four people were charged with the murder and all either plead or were found guilty.

Derrick Thomas played 10 years with the Kansas City Chiefs and was considered one of the best pass rushers of the 1990s. Thomas died on February 8, 2000 at the age of 33 from a massive blood clot that developed in his paralyzed lower extremities as the result of a car accident that killed one other passenger.
