Located in West Branch, Iowa, President Hoover's library also serves as his final resting place. Originally planned to be just a museum, Hoover had the building expanded to include a library as well. The library-museum was dedicated and opened to the public on Hoover's 88th birthday in 1962. The library houses collections on a vast variety of scholarly subjects, including conservative thought, agricultural economics, commercial aviation, political journalism, and U.S. foreign policy. The Library is located within the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site which includes Hoover's birthplace, a reconstruction of his father's blacksmith shop, and a one room schoolhouse. Although Hoover is the earliest president to have an official library, this building was actually the 4th of its kind.
