Braves spokesman Brad Hainje says some of Hanson’s former teammates were at Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital when Hanson died Monday night, Nov. 9, 2015. WSB-TV in Atlanta reported Hanson slipped into a coma caused by catastrophic organ failure.

Former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, a former Cuban star has died. He was 34. Gonzalez was killed in a car crash in Havana, Cuba.

Former Iowa football star Tyler Sash, who later player two seasons with the New York Giants, died at the age of 27. The cause of death was determined to be an accidental overdose from prescription drugs. Sash, won a Super Bowl ring with the Giants in 2011.

Roberto Clemente was killed in a New Year's Eve plane crash in 1972 while traveling to Nicaragua to assist victims of a recent earthquake. Clemente, who was 37 at the time of his death, was one of baseball's biggest stars, winning 12 Gold Gloves, an MVP and playing in 15 All-Star Games over 18 seasons with the Pirates. He also won two World Series with Pittsburgh.

Former NFL safety Keion Carpenter passed away on Dec. 29, 2016 at age of 39. Carpenter collapsed while running after suffering a brain aneurysm while on a vacation in Florida.

Derrick Thomas played 10 years with the Kansas City Chiefs and was considered one of the best pass rushers of the 1990s. Thomas died on February 8, 2000 at the age of 33 from a massive blood clot that developed in his paralyzed lower extremities as the result of a car accident that killed one other passenger.
