Roger Clemens, Bonds fall short for Hall again

Derek Jeter and Larry Walker will be the Class of 2020 for the Hall of Fame - Jeter just missing a unanimous vote with 99.7 percent in his first year on the ballot and Walker, in his last year of eligibility, squeezing in at 76.6 percent. Candidates need 75 percent of the votes by the writers to be elected. Published January 21, 2020

In this Oct. 24, 2019, file photo, Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow departs after a news conference in Washington. Houston manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were suspended for the entire season Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, and the team was fined $5 million for sign-stealing by the team in 2017 and 2018 season. Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the discipline and strongly hinted that current Boston manager Alex Cora — the Astros bench coach in 2017 — will face punishment later. Manfred said Cora developed the sign-stealing system used by the Astros. (AP Photo/Patrick Semansky, File) **FILE**

Jeff Luhnow and A.J. Hinch don’t belong in baseball

Luhnow says he didn't know about the cheating. But that doesn't mesh with his self-congratulatory comments from a 2018 interview where he bragged that he knew "what every person is doing on the field at all times." Published January 14, 2020

LOVERRO: Winterfest gives Nationals fans taste of summer

It felt like baseball at Nationals Park, even though Opening Day is four months away, and, judging from the crowds, fans still want to bask in the glow of their team's World Series championship. Published January 12, 2020

Ron Rivera hire not a guarantee for success, Redskins history shows

Look, I'm sorry to be the guy at the party blowing out the candles, but any reasonable person would have to have their memory banks wiped clean to believe that hiring Ron Rivera will then translate to the respect and results that Dan Snyder has futilely searched for during his ownership. Redskins Park is the elephant graveyard of the NFL, where careers go to die. Published December 30, 2019

Dwayne Haskins originally said owner told him sit

Add this to the series of red flags that should worry Redskins fans when it comes to the exact nature of the relationship between Snyder and the rookie the owner -- not Redskins personnel -- insisted on drafting with the team's 15th pick in the first round. Published December 22, 2019

Stephen Strasburg National for life

"It's great for me to say I'm going to be a National for life, but to have my kids be here too and experience being Nationals for life as well, that is something I feel fortunate about," Strasburg said. Published December 17, 2019

Anthony Rendon could have been prevented by Nationals from leaving for Angels

The Washington Nationals had 2,999 days to sign third baseman Anthony Rendon to a long-term contract when there was nobody else who could sign Rendon -- not the Los Angeles Dodgers, not the Texas Rangers, and not the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. They chose not to. And now he is gone. Published December 12, 2019

Anthony Rendon likely exit damper on Strasburg return

If we are to take Nationals owner Mark Lerner at his word, the family has no plans to sign both Strasburg and Rendon, stars of on this year's World Series championship team who became free agents after the last out of Game 7 in Houston. Published December 10, 2019

Mark Lerner can afford both Rendon and Strasburg

It might put the team slightly over the luxury tax and result in a penalty, but that penalty would be insignificant, compared to the revenue that would be generated if they keep this party going. Published December 8, 2019

Bill Callahan in mix with a win in Green Bay

How many times does a team that plays in the NFL face a game where a win could have a debilitating effect on the team for years to come? Unless, of course, you actually believe that Bill Callahan being the Redskins' head coach for this year and beyond would be a positive development. Published December 5, 2019

Before business of winter, a reminder of October glory
