USA Gymnastics enters new era both on and off the floor as U.S. championships begin

Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey are all on sabbatical from elite gymnastics, perhaps for good. And when Joscelyn Roberson salutes the judges during the first night of the U.S. Gymnastics Championships on Friday, the world championship gold medalist and Olympic alternate will be one of the few athletes on the floor with experience on the sport's biggest stage.

Noah Lyles landed the day's biggest blow on the track, passing Kenny Bednarek for the win, then looking his way to talk some trash. Bednarek's answer was a two-handed shove in the back after the finish line, some more heated words and a challenge for a rematch that can't come soon enough.

Semenya sex eligibility battle still isn’t over after confounding sports for 16 years

A ruling Thursday by the highest chamber of the European court found that Caster Semenya was denied a fair hearing at the Swiss Supreme Court. It kept alive Semenya's case and reignited a yearslong battle involving individual rights on one hand and the perception of fairness in sports on the other, with implications across the sporting world.
