Much talk has gone forth in recent days about the legalities of President Donald Trump’s seizure of Nicolas Maduro and his wife from Venezuela, and whether this White House has overstepped its authority.
But Venezuela is not just about Venezuela.
China, Russia, Iran — they’re all watching. So, too, Colombia, Cuba and even Greenland.
As Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer, retired U.S. Army intelligence officer said, pressures applied to one government are never contained to that one government.
And Trump has successfully sent a narrative around the world to all the governments with hostile intents against America that his administration cannot be steamrolled and bullied.
The big question now, Shaffer said, is whether or not the long-term future of Venezuela will be one of law and order, with a government run by civilized and duly elected politicians — or one day, the cartels.
