OPINION:
After horrific allegations of rape by civil rights icon Cesar Chavez and now-former Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, Democrats immediately disavowed both men.
In addition to resigning his congressional seat, Mr. Swalwell abandoned his bid for the California governorship.
However, the Democrats’ response to Hamas’ brutal rapes (and kidnappings, beheadings and massacre) of young Israelis in kibbutzim and at a music festival in 2023 has been very different. Israel, the victim, has been vilified and demonized for defending itself from Hamas’ unbridled savagery.
Meanwhile, the Gaza residents who freely elected a Hamas government, the Palestinian terrorists who perpetrated the Oct. 7, 2023, pogrom with the avowed goals of obliterating Israel and ultimately annihilating the Jewish people and the Iranian regime that has sponsored Hamas and other terrorists all enjoy sympathy and support from the political left.
Last week, 40 of 47 Democratic senators joined the jackals by voting to block sales of military equipment to Israel, even though the Jewish state is America’s ally in a war against Iran.
This is a shocking betrayal of Israel after the worst mass rape and slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust. It’s a shameful capitulation to the explosion of antisemitic hate plaguing America, Europe, Australia and the rest of the world.
It is also a betrayal of women. These senators have effectively sided with Hamas rapists against Israel’s rape victims, and with extremist regimes from the Gaza Strip to Iran that oppress and mercilessly kill women. Meanwhile, Israel remains a beacon and model as the Middle East’s only state where women have full and equal rights.
For shame.
