Americans must take heed of President Abraham Lincoln’s clarion call: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

In any discussion about the upcoming election, there’s almost always a rabid focus on candidate personality or communication foibles — while the pressing problems of our economy and border get ignored.

President Biden and former President Donald Trump have initiated tariffs to help restore U.S. solvency and productivity. Their border policies are also beginning to become more alike. Tariffs are against the interests of powerful, multinational corporations and “free trade” billionaires who own much of our media and news resources.

Is this the principal reason why both men have been subjected to merciless political and media campaigns to disrupt their viability as presidential candidates?

Now that Mr. Biden has been pressured into relinquishing his candidacy, do we have a 50% reduced chance of having our economy set on the right path and our trade system corrected? Is this a case of one candidate down, one to go?

Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan expressed concern about our country becoming a colony. Considering foreign interference in our political system and the preponderance of foreign advertising during Paris Olympics telecasts, his prophecy is absolutely in progress.
