Dwayne Haskins was trending on Twitter Sunday, and for once, it had nothing to do with the Washington Football Team.

After the Joe Burrow-led Cincinnati Bengals upset the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC title game, thousands of Twitter users talked about the decision by former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer to pick Haskins as his starting quarterback over Burrow in 2018.

With Joe Burrow now preparing for the Super Bowl and Dwayne Haskins a first-round bust who spent this past season as the third-string quarterback for the Steelers, the choice by Meyer was mocked by some online.

“Man I would love to hear Urban Meyer explain why Joe Burrow couldn’t get on the field at Ohio State,” wrote one Twitter user.

The Buckeyes coach had to decide between Haskins and Burrow for the starting job. He went with Haskins, and it seemed to be the right choice. Haskins threw 50 touchdowns to lead Ohio State to a 13-1 record in 2018, and he was drafted with the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL draft by Washington.

But then Burrow went on to win a national championship with LSU in 2019 and put together one of the most prolific passing seasons for a college quarterback ever, throwing 60 touchdowns for the undefeated Tigers. Now, he’s in the Super Bowl.

While some questioned Meyer’s decision in hindsight, even more Twitter users, including Ohio State faithful, came to Meyer’s defense.
