MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A man has been hospitalized after leading police on a chase in eastern Indiana.

The vehicle the man was driving crashed into a parked vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Muncie, south of Fort Wayne.

His injuries included a gunshot wound, the (Muncie) Star Press reported.

“The suspect did sustain a gunshot wound,” said Coley McCutcheon, a state police spokesman. “At this time, we are unable to determine the nature of that wound.”

During the pursuit it was reported that the man fired shots at both civilians and officers, Muncie police said in a release.

The man was speaking earlier Wednesday to officers when he reportedly threatened to shoot himself. That led to the police chase which officers called off because school buses were nearby, the newspaper reported.

Authorities were told about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday that the same man was holding a woman against her will in the vehicle which then was pursued by Delaware County sheriff’s deputies and Muncie officers.

The woman was in the car when it crashed about 2:30 p.m. She was not hurt.
