ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - Two people were killed Monday when they were struck by a northbound freight train at a crossing in north Alabama, officials said.
Coroner Mike West told news outlets that a man and a woman died of multiple injuries in the incident, which authorities said did not involve a vehicle. Further details were not immediately available.
A crossing near downtown Athens was closed for several hours as police investigated the deaths.
