ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Elko police say a 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at an Elko trailer park previously had been involved in an altercation with the victim’s mother.

Austin Himmelman was arrested last week in Sparks as a suspect in a double shooting on Jan. 7 that left one man dead and a woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports he was transported to Elko from the Washoe County Jail on Friday. He’s been booked in Elko on a warrant for failure to appear after bail on a felony and a probation violation.

He was booked in Sparks for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Additional charges are possible.

The man who died was identified as Matthew Baze. Police say he was shot in the head and pelvic area. The woman was shot in the abdomen. Her name has not been released.

The newspaper reports Himmelman and Baze’s mother were involved in an altercation the day before the shooting.

A detective’s affidavit says multiple bullet holes were found in the exterior of the residence and two 9mm shell casings on the ground outside.

It’s not clear if Himmelman has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
