MULDRAUGH, Ky. (AP) - Four people died when two vehicles crashed on a Kentucky highway, police said.

The collision occurred Tuesday evening in Meade County as the vehicles traveled in opposite directions on U.S. Highway 31W, a statement from Kentucky State Police said.

A preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Synthia Armstrong, 52, of Brandenburg was traveling south when it crossed the center line and went into the path of a 2003 Cadillac driven Christina M. Diaz, 44, of Louisville, police said.

Both drivers and a 12-year-old girl in the Cadillac were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Meade County Coroner’s office. A 14-year-old boy in the Cadillac died after being taken to a hospital and an 11-year-old boy was being treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

A 7-week-old child in Armstrong’s vehicle was taken to a hospital to be checked but wasn’t injured.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
