HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) -

A ferry in western Kentucky will remain out of service a little longer, causing motorists to take long detours.

The Dorena-Hickman Ferry extended a temporary closure for mechanical repairs through Tuesday. The ferry temporarily halted service on June 15 due to an issue with one of the engines.

The state’s Transportation Cabinet said when the ferry is out of service it creates a 75-mile detour with an additional 90 minutes of travel time. The ferry connects KY 1354 in Hickman, Kentucky, with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Missouri. The ferry is the only direct route between the two border states.
