NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - An Alabama man was arrested at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport after agents at a security checkpoint found a gun in his carry-on bag, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, was charged Wednesday with a weapons offense by Port Authority police. The arrest came after agents spotted a .22-caliber handgun in his bag as it went through a screening machine in Terminal B.
The incident marked the first gun arrest at the airport this year. Eleven guns were detected at Newark Liberty checkpoints last year, a decline from the 14 the year before.
