DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa officials reported on Friday 1,905 new virus cases in the previous 24 hours as virus spread continues to slow in the state.

Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases has decreased 37%, Johns Hopkins University data shows. Iowa has had more than 264,600 cases.

The spread of the coronavirus has slowed since mid-November and hospitalizations continued to drop in recent days. These trends prompted Gov. Kim Reynolds this week to relax restrictions on bars and restaurants, on social gatherings and sports events.

The state reported 701 people in hospitals on Friday and 96 patients with COVID-19 admitted in the past 24 hours.

The state reported no additional deaths on Friday. Reporting changed in Iowa on Dec. 8 with officials saying it could take up to a week for new deaths to be listed in the state’s posted public data.

The state has reported 238 deaths since Monday.

Iowa has reported 3,451 deaths and has the 12th highest per capita rate at 109.3 deaths per 100,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins researchers.
